Rajasthan Man Suspects Wife Of Having An Affair, Parades Her Naked

In a shocking video of the assault, a man, allegedly the husband, is seen stripping the woman outside their home and parading her naked as she screamed for help.

Jaipur: A tribal woman was beaten, stripped naked, and paraded through her village in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district allegedly by her husband on Thursday the police said last night. In a shocking video of the assault, a man, allegedly the husband, is seen stripping the 21-year-old woman outside their home and parading her naked as she screamed for help.
According to the police, the woman was allegedly in a relationship with another man, which triggered the attack on her. A police officer said this morning that three people have been detained and some arrests are likely in a few hours.

Unhappy that she was living with another man despite being married, the woman’s in-laws allegedly kidnapped her and took her to their village where she was beaten and paraded naked, Rajasthan’s Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra said.

Six teams have been formed to arrest the accused and Pratapgarh’s Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar is camping in the village, the top cop said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident in a late-night tweet and said: “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws due to a family dispute with her in-laws has surfaced. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send the ADG Crime to the spot and take the strictest action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and will be tried and punished in the fast track court.”

In a scathing attack on the Chief Minister and other Congress Ministers of the state, BJP chief JP Nadda said the ruling party is “busy settling factional squabbles” – an apparent jab at the power tussle between Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot.

“The issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state,” Mr Nadda said, adding, “The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson.” The state is scheduled to go to polls later this year.

“The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, is shocking. What is worse is governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The Chief Minister and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It’s no wonder the issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state. Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson,” tweeted JP Nadda.

Delhi rape: On ‘dharna’, DCW chief Swati Maliwal slept at hospital, accuses police of ‘hooliganism’

Swati Maliwal sat on a dharna at a hospital, claiming that she was prevented from meeting the minor girl allegedly raped by a Delhi official.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal Monday night at a hospital.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal spent Monday night at the hospital after she was stopped from meeting the 16-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by a senior Delhi government official.

Accusing the Delhi Police of indulging in hooliganism, Maliwal on Tuesday morning said, “They are neither allowing me to meet the girl nor her mother. I can’t understand what do the police want to hide from me. I am being told that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson was allowed to meet the girl’s mother. When the NCPCR chairperson can meet the mother, why is the DCW chief not being allowed for the same?”

Taking to X (formally Twitter) Maliwal wrote, “Since 12 noon yesterday, I am sitting outside the hospital to meet the victim girl or her family. Slept outside the hospital at night. The NCPCR can be introduced to the girl’s mother, so why have I been asked to stop? What are you trying to hide?”

The girl has been sexually assaulted for several months resulting in her pregnancy. On Monday, the Delhi Police arrested the government official Premoday Khakha (51) and his wife Seema Rani (50).

“In the case of sexual assault with a minor, we have arrested two persons. One of them is Premoday Khakha, 51 years old, is a Deputy Director in the Department of Women and Child Development of GNCT and the second accused is his wife, Seema Rani, 50 years old,” DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

Don’t try to create panic ahead of Baisakhi: Akal Takht Jathedar to Punjab government, again asks Amritpal to surrender

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday accused the Punjab government of trying to create panic by increasing security in Talwandi Sabo here and other parts of the district ahead of Baisakhi.

The Jathedar again asked fugitive Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh to surrender.

He appealed to people to come for the Baisakhi event at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib here in large number. The jathedar asked media not to “twist” this statement to suggest that he is calling a ‘sarbat khalsa’ (congregation of the community) that Amritpal Singh wanted summoned.

Fugitive Amritpal Singh, in his two video messages, had asked the jathedar to call a ‘sarbat khalsa’ on Baisakhi to discuss the issues concerning the community.

However, the jathedar had earlier announced a three-day ‘gurmat samagam’ (religious programme) at Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda from April 12 to 15.

Harpreet Singh called a special gathering at Takht Damdama Sahib on Friday to discuss the role of Sikh and Punjabi journalism, Sikh media contribution, and challenges the state is facing at present.

The gathering comes at a time when concerns about the rise of secessionist forces in the border state are being expressed, especially in the wake of a major law and order breach in Ajnala Police Station attack led by Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher declared fugitive by police.

The jathedar called for the formation of a body to track and bust “anti-Sikh phobia” or “Punjab-phobic” content in the media.

“Such an organisation will be formed to track and crack whatever fake news is being circulated,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, the jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, said because of the tight security arrangements, only a fraction of the usual number of devotees have come here this time ahead of Baisakhi.

“Every year, we see a big gathering which starts from April 5 (for Baisakhi). But (at present), the number of ‘sangat’ is just 10 per cent. The reason is the panic created by the government,” he said.

“I want to tell the Punjab government through this platform that this strictness has created a panic, and it should be ended,” he asserted.

Referring to certain media reports, the Jathedar said, “Earlier they said Amritpal Singh will surrender here. Now they will start saying that he will surrender on Baisakhi day, and an attempt will be made to create panic in his name. The government should avoid it.” The jathedar said when such a situation is created, it does not affect only the image of Punjabis and Punjab, but also the government which is ruling Punjab.

“At least save your image,” he said.

The jathedar said leaves of police staff in Punjab have been cancelled and they have been asked to be present for duty.

“All of them have been sent to Damdama Sahib. What will happen here?” he said.

According to sources, Punjab Police has cancelled the leaves of all its staff till April 14.

US judge suspends approval of mifepristone in latest abortion setback

A U.S. judge in Texas on Friday suspended the two-decade-old approval of the abortion pill mifepristone while a legal challenge proceeds, dealing another setback to abortion rights in the United States.

Adding to the volatile legal landscape around abortion, a federal judge in Washington state on Friday issued a seemingly conflicting injunction that prevented federal regulators from altering access to the same abortion drug.

The 67-page ruling by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Amarillo, Texas, will not take effect for one week, in order to give the Biden administration a chance to file an emergency appeal, which the U.S. Department of Justice said it will do.

Kacsmaryk’s ruling is a preliminary injunction that would essentially ban sales of mifepristone while the case by anti-abortion groups before him continues. The judge, who was appointed to the bench by Republican President Donald Trump, has not yet made a final ruling on the merits of the challenge.

However, in his ruling he found that the lawsuit is substantially likely to succeed. He said that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had ignored risks in approving the drug.

“The Court does not second-guess FDA’s decision-making lightly,” he wrote. “But here, FDA acquiesced on its legitimate safety concerns – in violation of its statutory duty – based on plainly unsound reasoning and studies that did not support its conclusions.”

The case was brought by four anti-abortion groups headed by the recently formed Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine and four anti-abortion doctors who sued the FDA in November. They contend the agency used an improper process when it approved mifepristone in 2000 and did not adequately consider the drug’s safety when used by girls under age 18 to terminate a pregnancy.

“By illegally approving dangerous chemical abortion drugs, the FDA put women and girls in harm’s way, and it’s high time the agency is held accountable for its reckless actions,” said Erik Baptist of the Alliance Defending Freedom, which filed the case.

‘EXTREME ANTI-CHOICE AGENDA’

The ruling will likely inflame the fraught U.S. politics of abortion, which have divided the country since last year’s Supreme Court ruling that overturned a women’s constitutional right to the procedure.

“Democrats will do everything in our power to fight back to ensure access to safe and legal abortion is protected, and voters will hold every last Republican accountable for an extreme anti-choice agenda,” said Jaime Harrison, the chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Since the Supreme Court ruled, 12 of the 50 states now ban abortion outright while many others prohibit it after a certain length of pregnancy, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights.

Mifepristone is part of a two-drug regimen, administered in combination with misprostol, for medication abortions in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. The drugs account for more than half of all abortions in the country.

Some abortion providers have said that if mifepristone is unavailable, they would switch to a misoprostol-only regimen for a medication abortion, which is not as effective. It is not yet clear how widely available it would be.
