The pumps will remain shut for the same duration tomorrow as well across Rajasthan.

An indefinite strike may be called by petrol pump association unless demands are met (Representational)

Jaipur: More than 6,300 petrol pumps in Rajasthan remained closed from 10 am to 6 pm on Wednesday as part of a strike called by operators against high Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol.
The pumps will remain shut for the same duration tomorrow as well.

Rajendra Singh Bhati, state president of the Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers’ Association – which called the strike – said the protest was against high VAT on fuel in the state.

“If the state government does not fulfil our demands of reducing VAT, a decision will be taken on Friday to go on an indefinite strike,” he said.

Former state president of the association Sunit Bagai said VAT in Rajasthan is higher than neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, and people in border areas go to these states to get fuel.

“Several petrol pumps in Hanumangarh and other bordering areas in Rajasthan have been shut in the last few years because of losses. People go to neighbouring states to buy petrol and diesel, causing losses to the petrol pumps in Rajasthan,” he said.

It also causes revenue loss to the state government, he said.

Rajasthan Man Suspects Wife Of Having An Affair, Parades Her Naked

In a shocking video of the assault, a man, allegedly the husband, is seen stripping the woman outside their home and parading her naked as she screamed for help.

Jaipur: A tribal woman was beaten, stripped naked, and paraded through her village in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district allegedly by her husband on Thursday the police said last night. In a shocking video of the assault, a man, allegedly the husband, is seen stripping the 21-year-old woman outside their home and parading her naked as she screamed for help.
According to the police, the woman was allegedly in a relationship with another man, which triggered the attack on her. A police officer said this morning that three people have been detained and some arrests are likely in a few hours.

Unhappy that she was living with another man despite being married, the woman’s in-laws allegedly kidnapped her and took her to their village where she was beaten and paraded naked, Rajasthan’s Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra said.

Six teams have been formed to arrest the accused and Pratapgarh’s Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar is camping in the village, the top cop said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident in a late-night tweet and said: “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws due to a family dispute with her in-laws has surfaced. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send the ADG Crime to the spot and take the strictest action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and will be tried and punished in the fast track court.”

In a scathing attack on the Chief Minister and other Congress Ministers of the state, BJP chief JP Nadda said the ruling party is “busy settling factional squabbles” – an apparent jab at the power tussle between Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot.

“The issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state,” Mr Nadda said, adding, “The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson.” The state is scheduled to go to polls later this year.

“The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, is shocking. What is worse is governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The Chief Minister and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It’s no wonder the issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state. Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson,” tweeted JP Nadda.

Rajasthan doctors call off stir against Right to Health Bill after pact with government

After two weeks of protest against the Right to Health Bill, private doctors in Rajasthan on Tuesday called off their agitation following an agreement reached with the State government on the applicability of the legislation. The Private Hospitals & Nursing Homes Association announced that all hospitals across the State will start functioning from Wednesday morning.

The representatives of agitating doctors and Principal Secretary (Medical Education) T. Ravikanth arrived at a consensus that the private hospitals which have not availed of concessions or taken land and building at subsidised rates from the State government will be kept out of the purview of the Act. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding comprising eight points after negotiations.

The Right to Health Bill, passed in the State Assembly on March 21, gives every resident of Rajasthan the right to emergency treatment care without prepayment of requisite fee or charges to any health institution. Though Rajasthan became the first State to legislate the right to health, private hospitals were apprehensive of the government’s interference in their functioning after the enforcement of the law.

While the talks with the government officers were continuing, the agitating medicos, accompanied by their family members and para-medical staff, took out a massive rally for the second time on the roads of Jaipur on Tuesday morning. A similar rally was earlier organised on March 27 in a show of strength.

Private Hospitals & Nursing Homes Society’s secretary Vijay Kapoor said the agreement had been reached “without any pressure” and the main demands of the doctors had been accepted, while the government would enforce the right with its own resources. The delegation which went for talks included the representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the United Private Clinics and Hospitals of Rajasthan (UPCHAR).

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Rajasthan had become the first State with the right to health after the end of the doctors’ strike. “I hope that the doctor-patient relationship will remain cordial in future as well. The doctor fraternity has shown a spirit of service and generosity, which will write a new chapter in social security,” Mr. Gehlot said.
