Filmmaker Hansal Mehta reacted to a news report which compared the OTT viewership of his film The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, with Kriti Sanon and Kajol’s Do Patti. While Do Patti released directly on Netflix on October 25, The Buckingham Murders first hit the theatres on September. It started streaming on Netflix from November 8.

On his official X account, on Wednesday (November 13), Mehta took to his official X account to criticise a news portal that suggested Kareena’s portrayal of a woman dealing with personal loss while leading an investigation in The Buckingham Murders couldn’t surpass Kriti’s performance in Do Patti on OTT.

For those unversed, a Koimoi report revealed that The Buckingham Murders had 42 per cent lower viewership than Do Patti. According to the report, Kareena’s film garnered 2.9 million views, while Kriti’s movie reached 5 million views.

However, Hansal Mehta argued that despite both films being women-centric, The Buckingham Murders and Do Patti cannot be compared, as The Buckingham Murders had fewer streaming days on the platform.

“Kareena Kapoor Khan’s nuanced performance in The Buckingham Murders could not overpower Kriti Sanon in Do Patti – Check out the OTT Verdict,” the headline read.

Reacting to it, Mehta wrote, “Idiots. Check number of days that each film ran and compare views accordingly. If you have to go by numbers at least display basic intelligence.”

Kanguva sells 275K tickets in India worth Rs 5 crore for opening day in India
Directed by Siva, Kanguva is registering good advances in limited locations. Two days prior to release, the upcoming magnum opus sold around 275K tickets worth Rs 5.35 crore for the opening day alone in India. Of these, around 96K admissions were recorded in Tamil Nadu, worth Rs 1.85 crore. Further, it sold around 77K tickets in Kerala worth Rs 1.40 crore, followed by 71K admissions in the Telugu states, which amounts to Rs 1.07 crore.

This is an encouraging figure to say so, especially on its home turf, as the full-fledged advance booking has yet to begin. Kerala’s advances are also very good, while the APTS pre-sale is decent so far. Karnataka and other markets, including the North Belt, need to pick up soon to put a healthy total on the opening day.

Overseas territories have also seen decent advances so far and sold tickets worth USD 0.53 million. Kanguva’s total advances for the opening day alone reached Rs 10 crore gross globally.

Singham Again, the latest installment in the Cop Universe, featured a number of old and new characters who came together. Deepika Padukone has been introduced as Shakti Shetty aka Lady Singham. Now, director Rohit Shetty has given an update on the standalone film with Deepika’s character. He shared that he didn’t know yet where they could go with the concept they had in mind.

In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Rohit Shetty revealed why it took so long for a female cop to be introduced in his cinematic universe. In response, Rohit shared that he was waiting to have the right script and launch for the character. He even stated that he wasn’t sure about there being a Cop Universe till 2018. Rohit mentioned that the idea to bring in a female cop came to him during the making of Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi.

Talking about the standalone film with Deepika Padukone, Rohit said that it hadn’t been written yet. He continued, “We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it.” The filmmaker added that it would take time.

Regarding the character Shakti Shetty, Rohit disclosed, “I know what the character will be like and her basic story arc but I don’t know her whole journey yet as a director or writer.”

The two actors on Saturday evening attend the mahurat launch of the upcoming movie Tera Yaar Hoon Main, which marks the acting debut of filmmaker Indra Kumar’s son Aman.

“I feel very happy whenever I meet Ajay. We don’t meet that often but whenever we do meet it’s with a lot of warmth and love, I like the guy he is,” Khan said.

Devgn said he had a great time working with the Dangal actor on Ishq, which was directed by Indra Kumar, and also featured Kajol and Juhi Chawla as the female leads.

To this, Khan added, “Yes, we should.” Kumar said he is now considering the possibility of a sequel with both actors.

“Now that Ajay and Aamir both have said they want to work together on ‘Ishq 2’, I’m going to speak to them again in detail about this. We should make the second part but not until we have the right script for it,” the filmmaker told PTI.

Devgn added, “But it happened all because of Aamir. He was spraying water on the chimpanzee and then ran around, shouting ‘bachao bachao’ like a girl.” The two superstars gave their best wishes to Aman for “Tera Yaar Hoon Main”, which is being directed by Milap Milan Zaveri.

In her fourteen year career, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has seen enough ups and downs to become an actress with immeasurable reservoirs of emotions and experience. These are brought into subtle and strong use in her role as a single mother coping with ruthless assassinations in Raj and DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny. Samantha speaks to Zoom about what success means to her.

Are you happy, vindicated and relieved by all the acclaim coming your way for Honey?

Usually I’m the sort of person who does not dwell on success too much. I move on very quickly. I don’t like to dwell on it.

But why?

It gives me this feeling of becoming lazy and I don’t want to get lazy and relaxed in that feeling of success. I’d rather move on to the next challenge. But with this one, I’m taking my time to soak it all in. I think I mentioned this before, that just the fact that I was able to finish Citadel was a success for me already and today to get this kind of appreciation and where no one is really pointing out that she wasn’t convincing —–which I was really really scared of– that I wouldn’t be able to be convincing in my role.

Your stunts especially one hand-to-hand combat , are the best I’ve seen performed by a female actor in Indian cinema? How much preparation went into it?

I didn’t have the time to prep for it. I learned all my action on the set. I didn’t have time to prep for anything for this role, so I was really scared that I wouldn’t do justice to the role. But I think 90% of the comments have been positive. So this truly means a lot to me so.

Has your medical condition been completely cured?

Um, no I haven’t fully gone into remission but the episodes don’t happen too often. They are far apart from each other. So I think they’re like… before it was a lot more to deal with and now it is a lot easier and I know the triggers. I know when it’s coming so I’m better prepared but I’m a lot lot lot better.

Thank God! You didn’t deserve this. You are one of the kindest people in the Indian entertainment industry!

I have thought about this when I was very sick. I did ask this question a lot why me…why me… what did I do… why me? But now I wouldn’t have it any other way and I can’t be more honest about this. So I wouldn’t have it any other way because I’m proud of my resilience.

As you should be!

I’ve never ever said I’m proud of myself in my life. I’ve always been uncomfortable with compliments… always insecure… I was filled with self-doubt, filled with insecurities. For me to be able to stand here today and tell you that I am proud of myself it has taken a lot a lot to get here and I don’t think that I would have been able to get here without everything that life threw at me.

Have the blows of life made you stronger?

I have seen people around say that when you go through hardships you become bitter and cynical. But I think honestly the opposite is true at least for me. Sometimes you can evolve through life’s blows and you can evolve quicker than you would ever have with just like successes and an easy life. I think because of the number of blows, I am actually a lot calmer and sorted. I don’t easily stress anymore I never thought that this day would come.

Well, it has come and you should be proud of the new power-packed version of yourself!

Even before release, I was actually pretty calm and that’s usually not my personality. I kind of freak out about every single thing and freak out about the response and I go looking for the negativity. But this time I sense a lot of calm and a lot of change in me every day these days. I am quite surprised by myself and I think that has to do with life’s experiences.

According to Mumbai Police, the threat call came in on Tuesday through the Bandra Police station’s landline. The caller demanded ₹50 lakh from the actor and warned of fatal consequences if the amount wasn’t paid.

Subsequently, the call was traced to Raipur, leading a Mumbai Police team to travel there for further investigation. Authorities are now working with Raipur police to track down the actual caller as they examine the circumstances around the reported theft of the lawyer’s phone.

“My phone was stolen on November 2, and I lodged a complaint. I told Mumbai police about it. They interrogated me for about two hours,” Faizan Khan said.

Lawyer’s previous complain against Shah Rukh

The lawyer had earlier complained to Mumbai Police against Shah Rukh Khan over a dialogue in his movie Anjaam (1994) that referred to deer hunting.

“I hail from Rajasthan. The Bishnoi community (which is from Rajasthan) is my friend. It is in their religion to protect deer. So, if a Muslim says something like this about deer, it is condemnable. Therefore, I raised an objection,” Faizan Khan was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“Whoever has made a call from my phone, it seems intentional. I think it is a conspiracy against me,” he added.

Salman Khan recently received a fresh death threat in which he was asked to apologize at the Bishnoi community temple or pay Rs 5 crore. The police had started their investigation to try and trace the person behind the message. It has now been learned that a 32-year-old man claiming to be gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s fan has been arrested in Karnataka.

According to a report in PTI, a man aged 32 years accused of sending death threats to Salman Khan was arrested in Karnataka. He has been identified as Bhikha Ram, aka Vikram, who lives in Jalore, Rajasthan. The accused was turned over to Maharashtra Police on November 6, 2024.

As per the agency, Haveri Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar confirmed that one person had been arrested in Haveri Town based on the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad’s information.

The police sources suggested that the man came to Haveri around a month and a half ago after living in different places in Karnataka. He had reportedly rented a room in Goudar Oni and was working at construction sites.

The agency shared that a police source stated, “The accused was watching a regional news channel when he suddenly called the Mumbai Police control room and issued a death threat to Salman Khan. He is a daily wage worker and claims to be a fan of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.”

According to the source, this is the suspect’s version of what happened, but a detailed investigation will be conducted by Mumbai Police.

Earlier, it was reported that the Mumbai Police Traffic Control Room received a threatening message for Salman from a person claiming to be Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother. The message stated, “If Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should either apologize at our temple or pay Rs 5 crore. If he does not comply, we will kill him. Our gang is still active.”

The strangest thing about Hum Saath Saath Hain, Sooraj Barjatya’s flamboyant arcadian brocade-draped plunge into parivaarik prattle post Hum…Aapke Hain Koun was its curious casting. Saif Ali Khan who admits he was the odd one out at the start , was cast opposite his future sister-in-law Karisma Kapoor and she most definitely looks older than him in hindsight, which is fine if only Barjatya had written the age difference into the script, like Ayan Mukerji had in Wake Up Sid.

Odder still was the picky Tabu cast in a walk-on part(“I did it for Soorajji”) opposite Mohnish Behl who incidentally had the most important role among the leading men. And we applaud Barjatya’s democratic spirit. Mohnish plays Rama while Salman plays Mohnish’s faithful Lakshman . Reema Lagoo was Kaikayee-redux while Alok Nath fitted Dashrath like a glove.

The film has aged rather badly with all its fatal flaws—garish unidimensional sets, over-the-top theatrical dialogues, an absurdly abundant number of characters constantly singing eating dancing and celebrating life as if there were no bills to pay, no Covid to combat—seeming more conspicuous twenty-five years later than they did on release.

The film features an unparalleled starcast of thirty important characters who come and go unannounced in the Chaturvedi home at will.Locks and knocks are unheard of in this arcadian world. If there is a watchman guarding the Chaturvedi mansion then he must have been briefed to let anyone in.

Reminds me of Salman’s real life house where guests of the three brothers and their parents would saunter in and leave, sometimes strangers would walk in have a meal and leave, with all the Khans presuming the stranger to be someone’s guest.That was before blackbuck incident during the shooting. Salman’s home is no more an open house. But Sooraj’s world is devoid of life’s obstacles.

Is this how Sooraj Barjatya lives? I asked his cousin once and she laughed, “No no not at all. That is Soorajji’s idea of Ayodhya in modern times. But yes, the respect shown for elders is a part of our DNA. There is nothing fake about that.”

According to police, the threatening message was discovered late last night (Monday) by an officer on duty in the Traffic Control Room.

Mumbai Police’s Traffic Control Cell has reportedly received a threatening message allegedly sent in the name of Lawrence Bishnoi.

In the message sent to the Traffic Control Room, it states, “This is Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother speaking… If Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should either apologise at our temple or pay Rs 5 crore. If he does not comply, we will kill him. Our gang is still active.”

According to police, the threatening message was discovered late last night (Monday) by an officer on duty in the Traffic Control Room.

The police are currently working to trace the person behind this message.

Following the threat message, a case was registered against an unknown person at Worli Police Station in Mumbai.

Earlier, the Mumbai police arrested a 20-year-old man from Noida in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly issuing a death threat to Salman Khan and NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique.

“The accused initially sent a threatening message on MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s helpline number and later made a voice call on it, in which he issued a death threat to Siddique and actor Salman Khan,” a police official said.

The call was made at the Zeeshan’s public relations office located in Bandra East, he said.

On-screen frights take every form imaginable, from iconic boogeymen like Frankenstein and Freddy Krueger to real-world threats, be it psychosis, contagion or off-putting in-laws (“Get Out,” anyone?).

In compiling a list of the genre’s highest achievements, we considered it all, from highbrow to lo-fi, pure schlock to Hitchcock (whose “Psycho” topped our “Greatest Films” list, but not this one), reaching back to the advent of cinema. Well, maybe not quite the beginning. According to legend, 1895 audiences recoiled in fear when they saw the train pull into La Ciotat station in the Lumière brothers’ early actuality film. We don’t count that as horror, though it certainly demonstrated the medium’s capacity to startle people.

The question “What is horror?” echoed at the center of every discussion, with long hours spent arguing over where the boundaries lie for a genre that has launched many a career. How often has one of these waking nightmares upset you enough to resurface in your dreams? If we’ve done our job, you’ll want to join the debate.

Take practically any other horror movie from the 1960s, and a character like Catherine Deneuve’s Carol — absent-minded, blond, a foreign-born manicurist living alone in London — would be dead meat. In Roman Polanski’s second feature, however, she’s not a disposable victim, but the film’s subject and a point of uneasy identification: a woman persecuted by the big city who retreats into a squalid little apartment. A sexual assault case has been registered against filmmaker Ranjith, originally filed by the Hema committee in Kerala, in Bengaluru on the basis of a complaint by a 31-year-oldman, who said the incident took place during a film shoot in 2012, police said.

Kempegowda International Airport police station inspector Mallikarjun quoted the complaint as stating that during the filming of “Bavuttiyude Namathil” in Bengaluru Ranjith had sexually assaulted the complainant under the guise of offering him opportunities in the film industry. Ranjith met the victim during the shoot of the Mammootty-starrer film, allegedly promising him a role, it stated.

The complaint further stated that Ranjith had built rapport with the man by discussing film industry prospects before inviting him to meet at the Taj Hotel near the airport. The assault reportedly took place during this meeting. The complainant later disclosed the incident to Kerala’s Hema committee, which was set up to investigate harassment and misconduct allegations within the entertainment sector. Based on the complainant’s account, an initial case was registered at the Kasaba police station in Kerala.

The Kempegowda International Airport police station has taken jurisdiction over the case and initiated an inquiry.

Following a review, the case was transferred to Bengaluru, where the alleged incident took place. Mallikarjun said that the case has been registered under Section 377 of the IPC, concerning “unnatural offences,” and Section 66 of the IT Act, addressing crimes involving technology misuse. “We registered the case on Saturday against filmmaker Ranjith and have launched an investigation to verify the details,” he added.

Liam Neeson, 72, professed his love for his “The Naked Gun” co-star Pamela Anderson, 57, after saying he’s no longer in the dating world.

Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Jamshedpur who had threatened Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and demanded a ransom of ₹ 5 crore.

According to the Mumbai Police, it registered a case against an unknown person and started an investigation after Mumbai Traffic Police received a threatening message.

“With the help of local police in Jamshedpur, an investigation was done and today the person who sent the message was arrested. He will be brought to Mumbai,” the police said.

Earlier on October 21, the Mumbai police received an apology from the same sender who threatened Mr Khan on October 18, stating that the message was “sent by mistake.”

ALTBalaji’s official Instagram handle shared statement clarifying that Shobha and Ekta are “not involved in day to day” operations of the company.

The official statement read, “With reference to various media reports regarding the web series Gandii Baat, ALT Digital Media Entertainment LTD. (Company) hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act and any reference to engagement of minors by the company is entirely incorrect.”

The statement also mentioned that the mother-daughter duo is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and the same is managed by separate teams.

“It is further clarified that Mrs Shobha Kapoor and Ms Ektaa R Kapoor are not involved in the day to day operations of the company and the same are managed by separate teams, including its content strategy. The company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully co-operating with the authorities in the investigation. since the matter is subjudice, the company refrains from commenting in detail,” the statement added.

Mumbai Police interrogated producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor, who were booked under the POCSO Act for allegedly showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of the ALTBalaji’s web series Gandii Baat.

On Monday, during interrogation, they have been asked to appear for questioning again on October 24. Mumbai Police has sought information about the actors working in the series. They will also record the statement of the actors and director of the film, as per Mumbai Police’s statement. The police also have asked Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor to bring some documents related to ALTBalaji.

At an event on Friday evening, where the iconic magazine Screen was relaunched, Kapoor called the film a “pure cinematic joy” and praised the collaborative effort of the crew and her co-stars Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.

“We have brilliant actors in the film. We have some really entertaining dialogues. So, it has been a fabulous team effort and pure cinematic joy. I’m really proud to be a part of this film,” Kapoor said.

For Kapoor, it all began with Stree, set in the small town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, where an evil spirit named ‘Stree’ abducts men during the festival season. The story was based on the urban legend of ‘Nale Ba’, which went viral in Karnataka in the 1990s.

“It was about six years ago, and Maddock Films was just up and coming as a production house. All the actors were at very different stages in our careers. We were also growing in our own ways,” she said.

“My personal reaction when I heard the first part was that I felt like I hadn’t heard a film like that before. It was based on an urban legend, and I was literally falling off the sofa when I heard it. I was so glad that they came to me for this film, which is pure entertainment. I was genuinely laughing at the dialogues and the scenes,” she added.

Kapoor, 37, said the movie and her character received immense love from audiences.

“My character is this mysterious girl who comes and goes, and you’re constantly wondering about her presence. So, it all began there. And hats off to our producer, our writers, and my director for really cracking the sequel because it’s important to not make a sequel for the sake of it.

According to sources cited by PTI, the Stree 2 actress received payment for making a ‘celebrity appearance’ at an event related to the HPZ Token app, which is presently being investigated for money laundering activities. Report states that no ‘incriminating’ charges have been brought against Tamannaah Bhatia. She had previously been summoned but postponed her appearance due to work commitments, ultimately deciding to attend on Thursday.

The charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March names a total of 299 entities as accused, including 76 that are controlled by Chinese interests. Among these, 10 directors are of Chinese origin, while two entities are managed by foreign nationals from other countries.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting the money laundering investigation based on an FIR lodged against several individuals associated with the app. They are accused of deceiving gullible investors by promising them astronomical returns through Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency mining.

According to the report, the police revealed that the HPZ Token mobile application was utilized by the accused to deceive investors. They opened bank accounts and merchant IDs associated with the app through shell companies run by dummy directors to conceal their illegal activities.

The FIR alleged that these funds were fraudulently obtained for illegal online gaming, betting, and investments in Bitcoin mining.

Aniruddhacharya entertained the audience with his interaction with host Salman Khan and with the contestants during the grand premiere episode of Bigg Boss 18

Spiritual leader Aniruddhacharya Maharaj, has apologised to his followers for appearing on the grand premiere episode of Salman Khan’s controversial reality show Bigg Boss 18. While earlier reports had claimed that Aniruddhacharya will participate as a contestant in the show, it was later revealed during the first episode that he was just a guest.

Aniruddhacharya entertained the audience with his interaction with host Salman and with the contestants. While he did not go inside the house, he appeared on stage and gave advice to the participants before they entered the house.

Aniruddhacharya also asked Salman when he will get married and suggested that he should tie the knot soon. However, his appearance on the reality did not go down well with his followers, who also pointed out that Aniruddhacharya had criticised the show earlier and he had also stated that he will never participate in the show, regardless of the monetary offer.

Mysuru: Iconic music composer and singer A R Rahman swayed more than a lakh audience and kept them spellbound for more than two hours at a concert held at Yuva Dasara, as part of the globally acclaimed Mysuru Dasara, at Uttanahalli, on the outskirts of Mysuru city, on Wednesday (October 9) night.

Sitting with his piano at the centre of the stage, jumping out from there to sing and dance at times, he took the audience to a rollicking musical world.

Audiences especially, youth, who thronged in large numbers, were thrilled to witness his live concert. They were elated and enthralled to hear all his evergreen popular songs, from melodious to peppy numbers.

He began the show with his Oscar award-winning song Jai Ho and presented all his best compositions right from Roja Jaane man from the movie Roja, Kehna hai kya and Humma Humma from Bombay,  Dil se re and Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se, Mukkala Mukkabala from Kadhalan, Radha Kaise na jale from Lagaan to his latest songs Param Sundari from Mimi and more.

He even celebrated his seventh national film award for his background score in Mani Ratnam’s 2022 film Ponniyin Selvan – Part 1 by presenting a Kannada version of the song from the movie.

A R Rahman was happy to see such a large audience who enjoyed the concert by clapping, singing along with him, dancing, and swinging their mobile torches to his music. Rahman concluded the concert with his signature Vande Matharam song, which was received by the audience with a standing ovation.

During the event, Rahman asked Mysuru-based singer Vijay Prakash who joined him on stage, if Sugar-free Mysore pak was available here. He even lauded Mysuru based singer Rakshitha Suresh who performed with him and called on Mysuru to create more such amazing singers and send them to Chennai to join his team.

A resurfaced clip shows disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs—currently awaiting trial on sex-trafficking and racketeering charges—warning a 16-year-old Justin Bieber to keep quiet about the things “he does with big brother Puff.”

In a 2011 appearance on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Diddy, then known as “Puff Daddy,” sat side by side with Bieber as they discussed the development of their friendship.

“We’ve become friends in a strange way,” Diddy says, adding that Bieber “is one of the greatest kids that you could ever know,” to applause from the audience and a smile from the “Never Say Never” singer.

That’s the lowest rating ever for any comic book movie.

On Thursday night, “Joker 2” scored only $7 million in previews. It picked up $13 last night for a total of $20 million. It should come in at a shockingly low $40 million weekend.

Meantime, Lady Gaga’s companion album, “Harlequin,” managed to move around 26,000 after its surprise release last week. The album is wonderful, with Gaga performing jazz standards like buttah. But the overall lack of interest in the film was an obstacle.

As per the latest reports, Elvish Yadav and Bharti Singh have been summoned over promoting an app-based scam, busted by Delhi Police. Read to know details.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bharti Singh and Elvish Yadav were sent legal notices by the Delhi Police. According to the reports, they were summoned by the police officials for having allegedly promoted an app called Hibox. The app is said to be nothing but is used to execute investment scams that have defrauded people of Rs 500 crore, as per one of the police officials. The summons was issued after over 500 complaints were registered, stating that several social media influencers, YouTubers, and other popular personalities were influencing people to use the app.

According to police, the renowned personalities who promoted the Hibox app and lured people into investing through the app are Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan (aka Fukra Insaan), Purav Jha, Elvish Yadav, Bharti Singh, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, Amit (aka Crazy XYZ), and Dilraj Singh Rawat (aka Indian hacker). All of them were issued notices.

The authorities have alleged that these celebrities used advertisements and promotional activities to entice individuals to invest in a mobile app, promising substantial returns on their investments. As of now, five out of the 10 influencers mentioned have been summoned by the IFSO. DCP (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari stated that Elvish Yadav and Bharti Singh are among the five summoned individuals, while others will be summoned in the coming days. During the questioning, the influencers will be probed about their involvement with the mobile app and the compensation they received for endorsing the brand.

Delhi Police has mentioned that over 30,000 people have been duped by using the Hibox app. The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Special Cells has arrested the main accused, named J. Sivaram. Aged 30, he is reported to be a resident of Chennai and served as a director of Hibox’s parent company, Sutrulla Express Private Limited. Police have also seized Rs 18 crore from his four bank accounts.

The Hibox smartphone application was launched in February 2024 but was developed in July 2023. A police officer said, “They (the accused) developed the backend, opened merchant accounts with Easebuzz and PhonePe, and opened front offices in Noida throughout 2023, before formally launching the app.”

In April 2024, following the release of promotional videos by YouTubers and other influencers, the app introduced giving movements for investment opportunities. According to DCP Tiwari, during the initial five months, Hibox delivered impressive returns of 1% daily and 30% monthly, with a block duration of 24 hours. However, starting from the first week of July, the application began withholding payments from participants, citing various reasons such as technical glitches, GST matters, and many more.

There are deft sonic nods to the madness of Harley Quinn – it’s a pity there aren’t more of them

The role of sexy, freaky Harley Quinn is tailor-made for Lady Gaga. Interviewed about her part in Todd Phillips’s musical sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, the 38-year-old star born Stefani Germanotta described how Harley Quinn has created a supervillain persona to unleash a “soul built on obsession and fear”.

It was not dissimilar to the way in which she conjured up her “Gaga” persona after “something bad” happened to her as a child. The fans she calls her “little monsters” love her for celebrating weirdness, darkness and queerness in big, shiny pop songs. She’s also proved her vocal chops by recording jazz standards with late crooner Tony Bennett – a covers project she now replicates alone on her new album Harlequin.

Splashing the Great American Songbook with blood is an old – but effective – trick. Martin Scorsese has made it his calling card, contrasting the image of his nation’s superficially sharp-suited, wisecracking financial success with the systemic violence that underpins it. Folie à Deux deals a similar hand in the comic book universe. Its narrative revolves around the criminally insane couple, Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) and Harley Quinn, who cast themselves as the stars of their own twisted version of a golden age musical.

On Harlequin, the only cover that really seems to dial into the film’s twisted heart is a cover of Charlie Chaplin’s 1936 tune “Smile”, the title of which brings to mind Joker’s painted, psychopath’s grin. Gaga sings over a cocktail piano in a breathy, melancholy register. Towards the end, the brass section turns murky and a guitarist scuttles their fingers down the fretboard, like a thief slipping into a dark alleyway. These are deft sonic nods to the madness of Harley Quinn – it’s a pity there aren’t more of them.

Elsewhere, Gaga belts and smoulders her way through upbeat songbook classics such as “Good Morning”, “Get Happy” and The Carpenters’ “Close to You”. All are recorded with flair, backed by a slickly arranged big band. The singer stays on the straight and narrow, sounding like she’s still on stage at her Las Vegas residency – there’s no suggestion of a bad romance with Joker. The perkiness packs a powerful punch when contrasted with the more shocking events on screen; listening to the recordings in isolation makes them feel solid but superfluous. Even the addition of a rocky electric guitar to “Oh, When the Saints” doesn’t really shift the mood.

There are just two original songs on the album, all of which have more success in projecting an off-kilter tone. “Folie à Deux” is a wonky waltz on which Gaga confesses that she’s “crazy in love”, as the orchestra swirls around her like a full silk skirt. “Happy Mistake” might nod to Radiohead’s “Creep”, but its soft strums of acoustic guitar seem better suited to her Oscar-winning 2018 film with Bradley Cooper, A Star is Born.

“Indian women are a strange mixture of submission and dominance. Well-defined, powerful characters in one world, Laapataa Ladies (Hindi) captures this diversity perfectly, though in a semi-idyllic world and in a tongue-in-cheek way,” the citation read.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the event had to be canceled. Now, the team of the upcoming movie released an official statement informing fans about the same.

Through an official statement, the team of Devara: Part 1 announced the cancellation of the pre-release event in Hyderabad. They stated, “We were eagerly waiting for this day as we’ve worked hard on this film for years and wanted to celebrate it on a grand scale especially since it’s the first solo release of our beloved Man of Masses NTR after 6 years.”

However, they faced many challenges. Elaborating further, the team mentioned that the pre-release event was scheduled very close to Ganesh Nimarjanam and large-scale events like this typically require at least a week of preparation. Additionally, heavy rains over the past few days created many challenges. While it didn’t rain today, on the day of the event, conditions wouldn’t have been favorable for an outdoor event to happen even if they had planned it well.

Salman Khan was in a steady relationship with actress Sangeeta Bijlani and the two were even set to tie the knot. However, Salman was enamoured by Somy Ali when they worked together and would meet her behind Sangeeta’s back. In fact, it was said that Sangeeta even caught Salman red-handed at Somy’s house. She told me ‘I don’t care, I am happily married to Azhar (Azharuddin, cricketer)’ but the next month, she filed for a divorce from him,” she said and added, “I knew that what the 16-year-old Somy Ali did was wrong. She broke up a marriage. I wanted to take the higher road and apologise to Sangeeta.”

Pooja, what brought on Maine Dil Se Kaha?

We either own our story or it owns us. Only when we gather the courage to own our history, own our legacy, are we able to write a brave new ending to our story. This is true for us as individuals, as a community, as a country. I was 17 years old when I made my first film, Daddy. The story of Daddy was very unusual. A 17-year-old girl saves her father from an addiction to alcohol and gives him salvation. Life is so ironical that I didn’t know that the same 17-year-old girl, who made a place in the hearts of people in her first film, would pass away at the age of 44. And she would have to battle addiction and save herself like she saved her father in the film, Daddy.

All this wouldn’t have been possible if my father hadn’t sent me a message. And the message was very simple. ‘Pooja, if you love me, then love yourself because I live in you.’ This message changed my life. My father never asked me to quit alcohol. But this message gave me salvation and a new beginning. It’s been eight years since I haven’t touched a single drop of alcohol.

It is brave of you to admit this?

I say this to people screaming and I share it because I want this word shame, which is associated with alcoholism, addiction. I want to erase this word shame. Alcoholism and addiction are not a moral weakness. It’s not a moral failing. Everyone has a different chemistry. And I think in our society, a man gets the opportunity to face his addictions and frailties. Talk about it. Go and heal yourself. Recover. And then society calls them back into the fray with a lot of love and respect.

What was the decisive reason for you to agree to this podcast?

Women who hide and lie and drink, how will they open up and recover? That’s why I thought it was very important that if we do a show where Bhatt and I dissect our own frailties and addictive personalities. And tell people how we came out of that darkness. It was important that both the male and female perspectives were presented to people. Because it’s not just a man’s property. It’s not just a woman’s property.

The podcast will address addiction from both perspectives?

That’s right. I said from my heart that there will be a very unfiltered, open-hearted dialogue with various guests, professionals and common people who face and fight this battle every day, because I believe that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety.

Then what is it?

The opposite of addiction is communication. We have somewhere become entangled with each other in this society and have developed an addiction to perfection. We all present ourselves to the audience through curated photographs, curated cuts and PR machinery, but heroes or heroines or role models are those who present their frailties to the people, who openly reveal their wounds to the world, so I felt that when I took this decision that I have to quit drinking, I have to be the best version of me, because as Bhatt sahab had told me in that message that if I love him then I need to love myself, and the only way I could love myself was first by removing alcohol from my life, and the day I took that one small step, then the whole nature inspired me and gave me a lot.
