iPhone 15: Apple says it will fix software issue causing device to get too hot – and blame some apps for ‘overloading the system’

The firm didn’t say when its own software fix would be released but said no safety issues should prevent iPhone 15 owners from using their devices in the meantime.

Apple is blaming a software bug and issues tied to apps like Instagram and Uber for causing its recently released iPhone 15 models to get too hot.

The company said over the weekend that it is working on an update to the iOS17 system that powers the iPhone 15 line-up to prevent the devices from becoming uncomfortably hot and is working with apps that are running in ways “causing them to overload the system”.

Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms, modified its social media app earlier this week to prevent it from heating up the device on the latest iPhone operating system.

Uber and other apps such as the video game Asphalt 9 are still in the process of rolling out their updates, Apple said.

The firm did not specify a timeline for when its own software fix would be released but said no safety issues should prevent iPhone 15 owners from using their devices while they wait for the update.

“We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected,” Apple said in a short statement after reports of overheating complaints appearing on online message boards.

It’s not unusual for iPhones to get uncomfortably hot during the first few days of use or when they are being restored with backup information stored in the cloud – issues that Apple already flags for users.

Musk has promised to ‘end poverty’ with Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus.

The eccentric billionaire hopes the robot will walk humans into a “future of abundance, a future where there is no poverty, a future where you can have whatever you want in terms of products and services.”

Musk’s goal was to make a humanoid robot as quickly a possible, revealing the project in August 2021.

Despite just two years since it was first unveiled, onlookers agree that the robot is impressive.

“This is mind blowing stuff!” one onlooker wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another tweeted: “It’s incredible to consider where the world will be in a decade, let alone five years, or one…”

However, some onlookers are spooked, given how humanoid robots like Optimus have been portrayed in movies – think I, Robot; Ex Machina; M3GAN.

Several viewers claimed the video even used the same music as Ex Machina, where a beautiful humanoid robot becomes self-aware and outwits its inventor.

Google turns 25, celebrates birthday with a doodle: ‘A walk down memory lane’

Google turned 25 years old on Wednesday and is celebrating its birthday with a doodle.

Google, everyone’s favourite search engine, turned 25 years old on Wednesday and is celebrating its birthday with a doodle. Taking a “walk down memory lane”, the company showcased different doodles on its birthday over the years. The latest one comes with a GIF which turns ‘Google’ into ‘G25gle’ – marking the 25 years. Once you click on the logo, you can see confetti on the page.

“Today’s Doodle celebrates Google’s 25th year. And while here at Google we’re oriented towards the future, birthdays can also be a time to reflect. Let’s take a walk down memory lane to learn how we were born 25 years ago,” the company wrote in its blog.

It added, “Much has changed since 1998 — including our logo as seen in today’s Doodle — but the mission has remained the same: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful…Thank you for evolving with us over the past 25 years. We can’t wait to see where the future takes us, together.”

Google’s history
Google was founded by doctoral students Sergey Brin and Larry Page who met in Stanford University’s computer science program in the late 90s. The two soon learned that they shared a similar vision – to make the World Wide Web a more accessible place. Google was founded on September 4, 1998, and on September 27, 1998, Google Inc. was officially born.

While the company observed its birthday on September 4 for the first seven years, it decided to shift the celebrations to September 27 to coincide with the announcement of the record number of pages that this search engine was indexing.

The worldwide search engine’s current CEO is Sundar Pichai, who succeeded Page on October 24, 2015. Page, meanwhile, took over the same position at Alphabet Inc. On December 3, 2019, Pichai became the CEO of Alphabet as well.

Google doodle history
The history of the doodle dates back to 1998 – a month before Google was founded. The very first doodle was on the long-running “Burning Man” event in Black Rock City, Nevada.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s note
Last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai penned a note as a blog post regarding the company celebrating its 25th birthday. Reflecting on the first quarter century, he shared some thoughts on the opportunities with AI to do things that matter on an even bigger scale.

iPhone 15 Pro Max: Shopkeepers Charge Up To Rs 20,000 More Due To Huge Demand

The expensive price tag of Rs 1.60 lakh at least isn’t deterring Indian buyers from lining up to get the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The craze to be among the first few to use the iPhone 15 Pro Max has strained initial stocks—which are simply not enough to cater to the unexpected demand. If you want to buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max in India right now, don’t be surprised if a shopkeeper charges up to at least Rs 20,000 more.

The iPhone 15 Pro models are being sold at a grey market premium above the MRP in India, News18 Tech has learned. These models—launched just three days ago on September 22—are in high demand across India, especially the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with most offline and online retailers running out of stock for immediate delivery.

News18 Tech reached out to several offline retailers in New Delhi and tier-2 cities like Jaipur and discovered that they are selling the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max above the MRP.

IPHONE 15 PRO MAX: MADE OF NATURAL TITANIUM. BUT PRICING? NOT NATURAL.
Retailers are selling the top-end iPhone Pro Max 256GB variant in Natural Titanium for approximately Rs 20,000 over the MRP of Rs 1,59,900. While the premium for the smaller iPhone 15 Pro isn’t as exorbitant as the Pro Max, retailers are asking for Rs 5,000-10,000, depending on the desired colour and storage capacity.

A retailer in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, quoted a price of Rs 1,51,000 for the iPhone 15 Pro 256GB in Titanium Blue, which is exactly Rs 6,000 more than the MRP of Rs 1,44,900.

We expected the situation in cities like Jaipur to be better, but to our surprise, a retailer operating in Ganpati Plaza, MI Road, openly listed the iPhone 15 Pro 256GB in Blue Titanium for Rs 8,000 above the MRP.

International Stocks of the iPhone 15 Pro Being Sold at Prices Nearly Equivalent to Indian MRP. We also found an online listing by a popular online seller in New Delhi who was selling both internationally sourced models and Indian stock for as much as Rs 28,000 over the MRP.

Another retailer in Thane, Maharashtra openly advertised selling the iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB variant for Rs 2,32,000—Rs 32,000 above MRP.

It’s important to note that iPhone 15 Pro models in India are considerably more expensive than in countries like the US and UAE. For instance, the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs roughly Rs 1,00,000 in the USA, while it costs Rs 1,59,900 in India, a price difference of almost Rs 60,000. However, offline retailers are importing stocks from abroad and selling them for nearly the same price as their Indian counterparts, effectively nullifying the cost difference, all while attempting to evade taxes through so-called “cash deals.”

WhatsApp Group History Sharing Feature in the Works; Mark Zuckerberg Announces Automatic Group Naming

WhatsApp’s automatic naming feature for new groups uses the names of group members

WhatsApp is working on a feature that could improve the experience of a user joining an existing group on the popular messaging app. A feature tracker has shared details of a new WhatsApp setting that will show up to 24 hours of messages from the group, before a member was added to the chat. The feature can only be enabled by group administrators (or admins) and will help provide context about recent messages to newly added members. Meanwhile, Meta’s CEO has announced a new feature that will eliminate the hassle of naming new groups on WhatsApp.

According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, the Meta-owned messaging service is currently working on a feature titled “Recent History Sharing”. Spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.5, the feature will display chats sent to the group by existing members, up to 24 hours before a user joins the group.

It is worth noting that this feature is still in development, which means that beta testers can’t try it out on the latest testing version of WhatsApp — and there’s no word on when it could eventually roll out to all users. The popular messaging platform is currently rolling out the recently announced Channels feature that allows users to see up to 30 days of previous messages when they join a new channel. Unlike a channel, the recent history sharing functionality for groups offers a shorter window of 24 hours.

As previously mentioned, the setting can only be enabled by a group admin, and WABetaInfo says that existing members will see a message informing them that the feature has been turned on. An image shared by the feature tracker shows a smaller message in the chat — presumably displayed using reverse engineering — that confirms recent history sharing has been turned on for new participants.
