CSK did well to reach 172 for 7 on a slow pitch in Qualifier 1 after Hardik Pandya opted to bowl.

Considering the conditions, it turned out to be much more than a competitive total as GT had a rare off day to end with 157 all out in 20 overs. Rashid Khan made the CSK fans nervous with a 16-ball 30 towards the end but it was not enough for the Titans.

However, the defending champions will got another shot to make a second successive final in Qualifier 2 on Friday.

Dhoni’s brain and CSK’s skill work in tandem

CSK’s master tactician MS Dhoni made the best use of home advantage to take the four time champions to a 10th final in 14 editions. CSK did not take part in 2016 and 2017 editions.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja (4-0-18-2) did the star turn for the Super Kings with a brilliant spell during which he strangled the opposition batters to avenge the defeat suffered in the tournament opener. Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana and Deepal Chahar also finished with two wickets each.

IPL 2023: Extremely hard to win games in the IPL, says DC’s Mitchell Marsh after 9-run loss to SRH

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh admitted that it is extremely hard to win games in the IPL after their nine-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Marsh was the star with bat and ball for DC.

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has said that it is extremely hard to win games in the IPL after their nine-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderbad on Saturday.

Marsh was a star with both bat and ball for DC on the day as he picked up four wickets and scored a blistering knock of 63. Ultimately, his efforts went in vain as DC suffered their sixth loss of the tournament.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Aussie all-rounder said blame for the team’s run cannot be placed on anyone as they have lost a couple of close games this season.

Marsh said that it is extremely hard to win games in a tournament like the IPL. The DC star also said that chasing 195 was far too many on the wicket.

“We can’t blame anyone. We lost a couple of close games. Ultimately, if we win those, we are not talking about that sort of stuff. It’s extremely hard to win games in the IPL. Unfortunately, we have been on the wrong side of a couple of really close ones. But I still think there are a few positives to come out tonight. But chasing 195, was far too many on that wicket,” said Marsh.

Marsh also said that DC has a lot of belief in their players. The Aussie all-rounder said while there are some inexperienced players in the lineup, you have got to have faith in them to perform and said that wasn’t where the game was lost.

After Sunil Gavaskar Suggests Rohit Sharma “To Take A Break” from IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians Coach’s Clear Update

Sunil Gavaskar had recently suggested that MI and India captain Rohit Sharma should take a break from the IPL in order to keep himself fresh.

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher on Saturday said team captain Rohit Sharma has not asked for rest in the ongoing Indian Premier League, but will look into it if he does. Rohit has featured regularly in what has been an ordinary campaign for Mumbai Indians in the IPL this year, with the five-time winners currently placed at the eighth spot at the halfway mark and requiring a lot to do in order to move up the standings. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had recently suggested that MI and India captain Rohit should take a break from the IPL in order to keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship final against Australia from June 7-11 at The Oval in London.

“No, I don’t think he should take rest. That’s not my call to make. Obviously, we want Rohit playing, because he’s a very good player, and a leader as well,” Boucher told the media ahead of MI’s clash against Rajasthan Royals here on Sunday.

“If it is the best for Rohit, and he comes up to me and says that ‘you know, I need a bit of a break’ then yes, we will address that, and I will consider that. He hasn’t done that. So yes at the moment, if he is available to play, he will play,” Boucher said.

Boucher admitted that Mumbai Indians have gone back to the drawing board to discuss their death overs bowling, after conceding 96 runs in the last five overs against Punjab Kings followed by 70 runs off four overs against Gujarat Titans to end up on the losing side in both the games.

“The first game, if we look at it, I spoke about dominating the most of it rather than in that short little period. We sort of repeated that in the second game which is something that if it happens once it is a mistake but if it happens twice, then it is something that we need to address.

“We have addressed it in meetings, there are lots of different ideas on how we are going to try and not do that again,” he said.

The MI coach confirmed that Jofra Archer went to Belgium for a ‘minor surgery’.

“Yes, he was (in Belgium for surgery). I believe it was a minor surgery. I think he went for a day. As far as I know, Jof is available for selection,” he said.

Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult, who was released from New Zealand’s central contract last year which gave him opportunity to play in various other leagues around the world, said that he was desperate to play in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.

“Of course, (I am) desperate to play in ODI World Cup – it is one of the biggest events in the calendar. My sole focus is on IPL at the moment and if things work out (well) I am 100 per cent I want to be there,” Boult said.

The left-arm New Zealand bowler heaped praise on young Rajasthan Royals batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel for their impressive batting in this IPL.

IPL 2023: LSG defend record 257 to jump to 2nd spot after terrific all-round show vs PBKS

IPL 2023, PBKS vs LSG: Punjab Kings posted 201 on the board but still lost the big tie at home on Friday, April 28 by 57 runs as Lucknow Super Giants came up with an all-round effort after posting the 2nd-highest total in the history of the tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Punjab Kings by 57 runs in Mohali after a demolition job by their batters on Friday. LSG smashed 257 for 5 off their 20 overs, the second-highest team total in IPL history thanks to a stunning half-century from Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers and brilliant knocks from Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni.

LSG have often come under scrutiny this season for lack of a more aggressive approach from their batters. On Friday, after KL Rahul failed on a batting paradise, the rest of his teammates made sure they hit boundaries and sixes at will. Just 6 days back, LSG had failed to chase down 136 against defending champions Gujarat Titans and KL Rahul who scored 68 off 61 balls, had no way of explaining that defeat.

On Friday, the LSG approach had changed. They became the second team after RCB to post a 250+ total in the IPL. They posted the highest IPL total in Mohali. And all that happened because LSG’s batters did not want to waste any opportunity to score runs against a bowling attack clearly deflated with the early onslaught from Kyle Mayers.

LSG moved to the 2nd spot, leapfrogging Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings on the IPL 2023 points table after clinching their 5th win of the season in 8 matches.

IPL 2023: Points Table

Chasing a daunting 258, PBKS got off to a horror start. Shikhar Dhawan returned to the field for PBKS after 15 days and he fell to Marcus Stoinis in the first over of the innings. Prabhsimran Singh was sent back by Naveen-ul-Haq in the 4th over. PBKS reached 55 for 2 at the end of the Powerplay and they were still way behind the asking rate which continued to shoot up.

However, Atharva Taide, a Vidarbha batter in his maiden IPL season, showcased his mettle, hitting 66 off just 36 balls. His score was aided by handy contributions from Sikandar Raza, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran as Punjab Kings posted 201 on the board.

However, it was not enough as PBKS lost the match by 56 runs.

Young Yash Thakur stepped up with 4 wickets as Lucknow Super Giants managed their bowling attack well despite losing Marcus Stoinis to an injury after he picked up the wicket of Dhawan.

Naveen-ul-Haq finished with figures of 3 for 30 in his 4-over spell as Lucknow completed a comprehensive win on Friday.

31 runs in 1 Over! MI Pacer Arjun Tendulkar Becomes Part Of Unwanted Tally

Mumbai Indians youngster Arjun Tendulkar picked up his first wicket in front of the home crowd against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, however, he also ended up featuring in an unwanted record. Arjun conceded 31 runs in the 16th over and with that over he bowled the second most expensive over by an MI bowler in the IPL. Daniel Sams holds the first position as he conceded 35 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. For the third position, there is a tie between three players as Pawan Suyal against Royal Challengers Bangalore (2014), Alzarri Joseph against Rajasthan Royals (2019) and Mitchell McClenaghan vs PBKS (2017) had conceded 28 runs each.

Arjun’s over turned out to be crucial in Saturday’s match as it shifted the momentum in favour of Punjab Kings.

PBKS got to a flying start even though they lost the wicket of Matthew Short (11) quite early in the innings. The talented duo of Indian youngsters Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide played some beautiful shots that kept the PBKS scoreboard ticking. PBKS crossed the 50-run mark in 5.3 overs. At the end of six overs, PBKS end the powerplay at 58/1 with Prabhsimran Singh (25*) and Atharva Taide (19*) unbeaten.

However, Mumbai orchestrated Punjab’s downfall in the middle overs as Arjun Tendulkar stepped up and picked up his first wicket in front of the home crowd. The young pacer trapped Prabhsimran Singh (25) right in front of the stumps with a yorker. Piyush Chawla followed up quickly to give control of the match to MI. Atharva Taide was dismissed by Chawla for a score of 29 (17).

PBKS managed to put up a score of 83/4 in 10 overs, with Sam Curran (0*) and Harpreet Singh Bhatia (1*) unbeaten on the crease.

IPL 2023: Arshdeep Singh last-over heroics help Punjab Kings secure 13-run win over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede

IPL 2023, MI vs PBKS: Thanks to Arshdeep Singh’s final-over heroics, Punjab Kings were able to edge past Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on Saturday, 22nd April with a 13-run win.

Pacer Arshdeep Singh held his nerves in the last over to help Punjab Kings script a stunning 13-run victory against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Punjab Kings needed 15 runs in the last over but Arshdeep conceded just 2 runs and took two wickets in the final over.

Arshdeep castled Tilak Varma and Impact Player Nehal Wadhera with blistering yorkers to the middle-stump, breaking the woodwork twice in two deliveries in the final over of Mumbai’s innings.

However, the left-handed pacer missed out on a hat-trick when he bowled a wide yorker to Jofra Archer, but he only gave up two runs in the final over to complete a spectacular win for Punjab that appeared implausible at one point. Suryakumar Yadav’s 57 and Cameron Green’s 67 almost pulled Mumbai towards their first successful 200-run chase at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, Arshdeep returned for his third over in the 18th over to dismiss Suryakumar for nine runs. Arshdeep also topped the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list with 13 wickets from seven games.

Mumbai Indians gave Punjab a run for their money till the very end, but could not record their fourth win on the trot despite Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green coming up with heroic knocks for the hosts. Cameron Green slammed a 43-ball 67 with 6 fours and 3 sixes, while Rohit Sharma scored 44 runs off 27 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes and Suryakumar Yadav hit 57 runs off 26 balls, including seven fours and three sixes.

Earlier, Sam Curran played a superb 29-ball-55 knock as Punjab Kings recovered from a hazardous position to make a solid 214 for 8 against Mumbai Indians. With 131 runs coming in the final 10 overs, a 92-run stand for the eighth wicket with Harpreet Bhatia (41 off 28 balls) changed the course of the game.

Arjun Tendulkar (1/48 in 3 overs), who made his IPL debut this season, got a decent start but went for 31 in his third over as 69 runs were scored between overs 16-18. In the 17th and 18th overs, Jofra Archer and Cameron Green went for 13 and 25, respectively.

Arjun Tendulkar picks maiden wicket, defends 20 in last over as MI beat SRH for hat-trick of wins in IPL 2023

SRH vs MI: Mumbai Indians (192/5) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (178) by 14 runs to register their third win in a row in IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad played out yet another thriller in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Tuesday with the former emerging victorious by 14 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.

Chasing 193 for victory, the Sunrisers brought the equation down to 20 in the last over with two wickets in hand and the dangerous Abdul Samad on strike.

Arjun Tendulkar was handed the ball by skipper Rohit Sharma and he managed to give away just 5 runs along with the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Hyderabad finished at 178-all out in 19.5 overs.

Tendulkar’s maiden IPL wicket saw him finish with impressive figures of 1 for 18 from 2.5 overs.

‘Happy to bowl any time captain asks’

“Obviously it was great getting my first IPL wicket. I just had to focus on what was in hand, the plan and executing it.

“Our plan was just to bowl wide and get the long boundary into play, make the batsman hit it to the longer side.

“I love bowling, I am happy to bowl anytime the captain asks me to and just stick to the team plan and give my best,” Tendulkar said after the match.

Mayank, Klaasen stage SRH fightback

SRH were struggling at 72 for 4 at one stage but managed to recover thanks to useful contributions from opener Mayank Agarwal (48) and Heinrich Klaasen, who 16-ball 36 brought the hosts back in the reckoning.

But important strikes from Piyush Chawla (2/43) and Jason Behrendorff (2/37) in the final stages took the game away from SRH, who dropped down to ninth on the table with 4 points from 5 games.
