Mumbai Indians youngster Arjun Tendulkar picked up his first wicket in front of the home crowd against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, however, he also ended up featuring in an unwanted record. Arjun conceded 31 runs in the 16th over and with that over he bowled the second most expensive over by an MI bowler in the IPL. Daniel Sams holds the first position as he conceded 35 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. For the third position, there is a tie between three players as Pawan Suyal against Royal Challengers Bangalore (2014), Alzarri Joseph against Rajasthan Royals (2019) and Mitchell McClenaghan vs PBKS (2017) had conceded 28 runs each.

Arjun’s over turned out to be crucial in Saturday’s match as it shifted the momentum in favour of Punjab Kings.

PBKS got to a flying start even though they lost the wicket of Matthew Short (11) quite early in the innings. The talented duo of Indian youngsters Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide played some beautiful shots that kept the PBKS scoreboard ticking. PBKS crossed the 50-run mark in 5.3 overs. At the end of six overs, PBKS end the powerplay at 58/1 with Prabhsimran Singh (25*) and Atharva Taide (19*) unbeaten.

However, Mumbai orchestrated Punjab’s downfall in the middle overs as Arjun Tendulkar stepped up and picked up his first wicket in front of the home crowd. The young pacer trapped Prabhsimran Singh (25) right in front of the stumps with a yorker. Piyush Chawla followed up quickly to give control of the match to MI. Atharva Taide was dismissed by Chawla for a score of 29 (17).

PBKS managed to put up a score of 83/4 in 10 overs, with Sam Curran (0*) and Harpreet Singh Bhatia (1*) unbeaten on the crease.

Arjun Tendulkar picks maiden wicket, defends 20 in last over as MI beat SRH for hat-trick of wins in IPL 2023

SRH vs MI: Mumbai Indians (192/5) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (178) by 14 runs to register their third win in a row in IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad played out yet another thriller in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Tuesday with the former emerging victorious by 14 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.

Chasing 193 for victory, the Sunrisers brought the equation down to 20 in the last over with two wickets in hand and the dangerous Abdul Samad on strike.

Arjun Tendulkar was handed the ball by skipper Rohit Sharma and he managed to give away just 5 runs along with the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Hyderabad finished at 178-all out in 19.5 overs.

Tendulkar’s maiden IPL wicket saw him finish with impressive figures of 1 for 18 from 2.5 overs.

‘Happy to bowl any time captain asks’

“Obviously it was great getting my first IPL wicket. I just had to focus on what was in hand, the plan and executing it.

“Our plan was just to bowl wide and get the long boundary into play, make the batsman hit it to the longer side.

“I love bowling, I am happy to bowl anytime the captain asks me to and just stick to the team plan and give my best,” Tendulkar said after the match.

Mayank, Klaasen stage SRH fightback

SRH were struggling at 72 for 4 at one stage but managed to recover thanks to useful contributions from opener Mayank Agarwal (48) and Heinrich Klaasen, who 16-ball 36 brought the hosts back in the reckoning.

But important strikes from Piyush Chawla (2/43) and Jason Behrendorff (2/37) in the final stages took the game away from SRH, who dropped down to ninth on the table with 4 points from 5 games.
