India superstar batter Virat Kohli video called Smriti Mandhana and co. following their win over Delhi Capitals in the final of the 2024 Women’s Premier League. RCB beat DC by eight wickets to clinch their maiden WPL title at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Following their win over DC, Kohli joined the RCB players in their WPL title celebration by joining them via video call. RCB ended their 16-year-long trophy drought as a franchise when Mandhana lifted the WPL trophy in New Delhi.

RCB made easy work of their 114-run chase against DC to lift their maiden WPL title. A wonderful first innings performance from RCB’s spin-attack helped them clinch their first-ever trophy as a franchise.

Ellyse Perry, who played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs off 37 deliveries to guide RCB to victory, said the standard of cricket has been unbelievable following their win over DC.

“This is just another level for us. The standard of cricket has been unbelievable. So much fun to play. It felt like we just need to stay in the game. We took it deep and got the desired result. Richa Ghosh is an amazing player. Can play a lot of shots. Sophie Molineux turned the match on. Rest of the spinners supported her,” said Perry.

DC got off to a flying start after winning the toss and opting to bat first in the final. Shafali Verma showed exceptional form and looked ready to etch her name in the history books as the first Indian to score a half-century in a WPL final.

She especially victimised Renuka Singh, adding 19 runs off her over. Fans were left stunned as her 44-run spectacle, laced with two fours and three impressive maximums, came to a halt at the hands of Molineux after just 27 balls.

Molineux’s over altered the game’s dynamics as she dismissed Shafali, followed by Jemmimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey, causing a dramatic downfall for the Capitals. What began as a no-loss match in the eighth over, erratic at 64, shockingly spiraled to 65 for 3.

RCB’s Shreyanka Patil joined the party, dismissing Meg Lanning in the 11th over to leave DC reeling at 74 for 4. The collapse was heightened as Asha Sobhana took down veterans Marizzane Kapp and Jess Jonassen, reducing DC to 81 for 6. The Capitals were further disheartened as Molineux ran out Radha Yadav, putting the score at a dismal 87 for 7.

DC managed to surpass the 100-run milestone thanks to a brief stand between Minnu Mani and Arundhati Roy. However, this shred of hope was short-lived as Shreyanka claimed her second wicket by removing Mani. She cleaned up the tail and ended the first innings with four wickets while conceding just 12 runs in 3.3 overs, whilst Molineux contributed with three pivotal wickets.
