Hillary Clinton: “There Needs To Be A Formal Deprogramming” Of The Trump Cult Members

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an interview on Thursday with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour called for a systemic deprogramming of Donald Trump’s MAGA “cult members.” Clinton acknowledged that the former president will likely be the Republican party’s presidential nominee.

Clinton said Trump’s “negative, nasty form of politics” resonates with his supporters because they may not like migrants, and are homophobic, racist, and misogynistic.

“It’s a classic tale of an authoritarian, populist who really has a grip on the emotional psychological needs and desires of a portion of the population,” Clinton said of the Trump saga. “And the base of the Republican party, for whatever combination of reasons — and it is emotional and psychological — sees in him someone who speaks for them. And they are determined that they will continue to vote for him, attend his rallies, wear his merchandise, because for whatever reason, he and his very negative, nasty form of politics resonates with them.”

“Maybe they don’t like migrants,” she suggested. “Maybe they don’t like gay people or black people or the woman who got the promotion at work they didn’t get. Whatever the reason. You know, Make America Great Again was a bid for nostalgia to return to a place where people couldn’t be in charge of their lives, feel empowered, say what they want, insult whoever came in their way. and that was really attractive to a significant portion of the Republican base. So it is like a cult. And somebody has to break that momentum. And that’s why I believe Joe Biden will defeat him. Hopefully, then that will be the end and the fever will break and Republicans can try to get back to fighting about issues and elect people who are at least responsible and accountable.”

“We’ve had very strong partisans in both parties in the past and we had very bitter battles over all kinds of things, gun control and climate change and the economy and taxes,” Clinton said. “But there wasn’t this little tail of extremism wagging the dog of the Republican party as it is today. Sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions, and criminal actions. And when do they break with him because at some point, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members, but something needs to happen.”

Trump says he’s willing to serve as House speaker for up to 90 days — if it’s ‘necessary’ to unite Republicans

Former President Donald Trump revealed Thursday that he would accept a short-term role as speaker of the House “if necessary” to unite the Republican Party.

Trump, 77, told Fox News Digital that if Republicans struggle to reach a consensus on a replacement for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), he’d be willing to fill the role for a “30, 60, or 90-day period.”

“I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” the former president said. “If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term because I am running for president.”

“They have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion,” he added. “I’m not doing it because I want to — I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision.”

Trump told Fox that he will travel to Washington and meet with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday, when the GOP conference will hold a candidate forum to discuss potential options for the vacant speakership position.

The full House is expected to begin the election process the following day and continue until a new speaker is chosen.

“I would only do it for the party,” Trump said of the possibility of becoming speaker, insisting that his priority is his presidential campaign.

Trump is ineligible for the speakership post under current House GOP rules, which bars Individuals with felony indictments from serving in the role — but the rules could be altered to clear the way for him to possess the gavel.

Trump is facing a total of 91 charges across four criminal cases — and up to 712 years and six months behind bars if convicted of all of them.

In the aftermath of McCarthy’s unprecedented removal, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) have both thrown their hats into the ring for the speakership.

However, several GOP lawmakers – including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Troy Nehls (R-Texas) and Greg Steube (R-Fla.) – have called for Trump to be nominated and elected House speaker.

Trump’s $475 million ‘big lie’ defamation lawsuit against CNN dismissed

A federal judge has thrown out Donald Trump’s $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN, in which the former president claimed the network’s description of his election fraud as the “big lie” associated him with Adolf Hitler.

In a ruling late on Friday night, U.S. Judge Raag Singhal, who was nominated by Trump in 2019, said CNN’s words were opinion, not fact, and therefore could not be the subject of a defamation claim.

“CNN’s statements while repugnant, were not, as a matter of law, defamatory,” wrote Singhal, who sits in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, near Trump’s home at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

In a statement, a Trump spokesperson said: “We agree with the highly respected judge’s findings that CNN’s statements about President Trump are repugnant. CNN will be held responsible for their wrongful mistreatment of President Trump and his supporters.”

The statement did not say whether Trump would appeal the decision.

The lawsuit, which was filed in October 2022, highlighted five instances in which CNN either published stories or aired comments referring to Trump’s assertions about the 2020 election as his “big lie.” The phrase is also associated with the Nazi regime’s use of propaganda.

The wording, the lawsuit said, constituted “a deliberate effort by CNN to propagate to its audience an association between the plaintiff and one of the most repugnant figures in modern history.”

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms posted stronger-than-expected results for the second quarter on Wednesday, buoyed by a rebound in online advertising after a post-pandemic slump.

The Menlo Park, California-based company earned $7.79 billion, or $2.98 per share, in the April-June period. That’s up 16% from $6.69 billion, or $2.46 per share, in the same period a year earlier.

Revenue jumped 11% to $32 billion from $28.82 billion in the year-ago quarter. It’s the first double-digit revenue growth for the company since 2021.

Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of $2.91 per share on revenue of $31.08 billion, according to a poll by FactSet Research.

Facebook had 3.03 billion monthly active users as of June 30, up 3% year-over-year.

Squeezed by a slump in online advertising and uncertainty around the global economy, Meta has cut more than 20,000 jobs since last November. It had 71,469 employees as of June 30, down 14% from a year earlier.

Many other tech companies, including Google parent Alphabet and Amazon, have also cut thousands of jobs.

“There’s a lot to feel good about when it comes to Meta right now. It has been able to maintain decent growth in monthly and daily active users across both Facebook and its family of apps, and it has seen strong performance from Advantage, its AI-driven suite of ad automation tools,” said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst with Insider Intelligence.
