A team of the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Earlier, the premises of several others close to the MP were searched in the case.

A video shared by news agency ANI showed a team of probe agency ED at Sanjay Singh’s residence in Delhi.

Sanjay Singh’s name was mentioned in the chargesheet filed in the liquor policy case.

Reacting to the searches, Sanjay Singh’s father said, “The department is doing its work, we will cooperate with them. I will wait for the time when he gets clearance.”

Meanwhile, the party alleged the probe agency was ‘targeting’ Singh for raising the Adani matter in Parliament.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took to X and wrote, “The only dependent allies BJP has in NDA fold are ED, IT, CBI. What a fall for these agencies to reduce their credibility to become a tool for those in power. Condemn the raids being carried out at Sanjay Singh Jis home, it’s nothing but intimidation tactics.”

On ED raids, AAP spokesperson, Reena Gupta, said, “The ED raid is a result of Sanjay Singh being vocal about the Adani issue and the black money invested in his company. Neither they (ED) found anything earlier, nor will they find anything today. None of us is afraid.”

Nothing was found earlier, nothing will be found today. Raids were conducted yesterday at the residence of some journalists and today raids are conducted at the residence of Sanjay Singh…”

ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SANJAY SINGH AS PER ED
According to the ED chargesheet, Delhi-based businessman Dinesh Arora, who was named as an accused in the Delhi liquor policy scam case, had earlier met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence, in the presence of Sanjay Singh.

In a statement, Arora told ED he had met Sanjay Singh during an event, following which he also came in touch with former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Sources said the event was organised to raise funds before the Delhi elections.

According to the ED chargesheet, “He (Dinesh Arora) initially met Sanjay Singh through whom he came in contact with Manish Sisodia during a party at his own restaurant, namely Unplugged Courtyard. On request of Sanjay Singh, he spoke with many of the restaurant owners and arranged cheques amounting to Rs 32 lakh (handed over to Sisodia) for collection of party funds for upcoming elections in Delhi.”

The financial probe agency has also alleged that Sanjay Singh resolved one of Dinesh Arora’s long-pending issues with the liquor department.

Imran Khan could be jailed for life if guilty of jeopardising national security: Pakistan law minister Azam Nazeer

Pakistan’s law minister said on Thursday that former premier Imran Khan could be jailed for life if he was found guilty of jeopardising national security by exposing a controversial diplomatic communication commonly known as “cypher”.

Khan used a cable sent by the Pakistan embassy in Washington in March last year to blame the US for orchestrating his ouster from power a month later.
Addressing a press conference, law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the minimum punishment for leaking an official secret was two years.

But the nature of crime would change if the cypher was made public and its contents were leaked for vested interest then an accused can be sentenced to up to 14 years.

“Sharing or making public classified documents for vested interest or if it is prejudicial to the national interest than a category for [sentence] is 14 years,” he added.
Fourteen years’ punishment in jail is maximum in Pakistan and is also considered as life imprisonment.

Tarar clarified that the cypher, an official classified document, can neither be made public nor shared with anyone, saying that Imran was summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for interrogation on July 25 in this regard.

“National security was compromised by indiscriminate use of the cypher, as evident from the confessional statement of (former PM’s aide) Azam Khan. Chairman PTI used it for his own political motives,” he added.
Tarar said that Khan revealed the contents of the cypher during one of his political rallies, compromising the country’s national security.

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms posted stronger-than-expected results for the second quarter on Wednesday, buoyed by a rebound in online advertising after a post-pandemic slump.

The Menlo Park, California-based company earned $7.79 billion, or $2.98 per share, in the April-June period. That’s up 16% from $6.69 billion, or $2.46 per share, in the same period a year earlier.

Revenue jumped 11% to $32 billion from $28.82 billion in the year-ago quarter. It’s the first double-digit revenue growth for the company since 2021.

Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of $2.91 per share on revenue of $31.08 billion, according to a poll by FactSet Research.

Facebook had 3.03 billion monthly active users as of June 30, up 3% year-over-year.

Squeezed by a slump in online advertising and uncertainty around the global economy, Meta has cut more than 20,000 jobs since last November. It had 71,469 employees as of June 30, down 14% from a year earlier.

Many other tech companies, including Google parent Alphabet and Amazon, have also cut thousands of jobs.

“There’s a lot to feel good about when it comes to Meta right now. It has been able to maintain decent growth in monthly and daily active users across both Facebook and its family of apps, and it has seen strong performance from Advantage, its AI-driven suite of ad automation tools,” said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst with Insider Intelligence.
