A disciplined performance from the UP Warriorz helped them to end Mumbai Indians’ winning streak in the WPL 2023 as they defeated Harmanpreet Kaur’s team by five wickets on Saturday.

Sophie Ecclestone was the star of the show for UPW as she picked up three wickets and hit the winning runs on the day.

UP Warrriorz had won the toss on the day and they elected to bowl first. The Mumbai Indians were off to a slow start and lost in-form Yastika Bhatia for just seven runs.

Nat Sciver-Brunt also failed to make an impact with the bat as MI found themselves 39 for two in 7.2 overs with the UPW bowlers applying good pressure.

Hayley Matthews was the next to fall for 30 runs as MI were left struggling at the halfway mark. Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship for sometime before she and Amelia Kerr fell in quick succession to have the league leaders reeling at 78 for five. Wong played a vital 32 off 19 deliveries to ensure MI reached 127 but she didn’t get enough support from the tail on the day. Eccelstone was the pick of the bowlers on the day for UPW with figures of three for 15.

UP Warriorz got off to the worst possible start as they lost Devika Vaidya with just one run on the board thanks to a fine catch by captain Harmanpreet.

The in-form Alyssa Healy was the next to fall for UPW as MI looked to be on top at that point in time. Kiran Navgire also didn’t make an impact with the bat on the day as UPW found themselves at 27 for three in 6.1 overs.

Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris then stitched together an important 45-run partnership with the former being the aggressor at that point. McGrath scored 38 off 25 balls before Amelia Kerr dismissed her.

Harris then took the charge and started to play shots freely to make the equation easy for UPW. However, Kerr came back to dismiss Harris for 39 to make things interesting with UPW needing 23 off 26 deliveries.
