North Korea launches missiles into sea days after US-South Korea military drills

Details of the launch were being analysed by South Korean and US intelligence authorities, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

North Korea fired several cruise missiles towards the Yellow Sea in the early hours of Saturday, according to the South Korean military.

Details of the launch were being analysed by South Korean and US intelligence authorities, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

It was the latest in a series of missile tests and military exercises conducted by the North in recent weeks, including a failed spy satellite launch late last month.

Seoul announced sanctions on Friday on five North Korean individuals and one company in response to Pyongyang’s launch of what it said was a space rocket last month.

Air Force To Hold Mega Air Exercise ‘Trishul’ Near Pak, China Border During G20 Summit

The Exercise will take place close to the borders of Pakistan and China at the time when India would be hosting the biggest International event, the G-20 Summit between 8-10 September in New Delhi. The exercise scheduled ahead of the G20 Summit will witness the participation of major fleets of fighter aircraft including the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and the Su-30MKIs.

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force will be conducting a major air exercise in the Northern Sector between September 4 -14. The exercise named Trishul will involve almost all components of Air Force’s fighting and transport fleet. The Exercise will take place close to the borders of Pakistan and China at the time when India would be hosting the biggest International event, the G20 Summit between 8-10 September in New Delhi. The exercise scheduled ahead of the G20 Summit will witness the participation of major fleets of fighter aircraft including the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and the Su-30MKIs.
Heavy-lift transport aircraft and choppers including the Chinooks and Apache will also take part in the military drills. Garud Special Forces are also part of the drills where all elements of air power are likely to be exercised. The Indian Airforce conducts these training exercises to enhance the combat capabilities regularly at various command and inter-command levels. Exercise Trishul will involve all major air bases including Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.

North Korea stages tactical nuclear strike drill to protest allied exercises

North Korea conducted a simulated “scorched-earth” nuclear strike on targets across South Korea, state media reported on Thursday (Aug 31), in reaction to allied exercises that it said amounted to plans for a preemptive nuclear attack by the United States.

The missile unit fired two ballistic missiles and correctly carried out its “nuclear strike mission”, the General Staff of the North’s Korean People’s Army (KPA) said in a statement carried by the news agency KCNA.

“The KPA staged a tactical nuclear strike drill simulating scorched-earth strikes at major command centres and operational airfields of the ‘ROK’ military gangsters on Wednesday night,” it said, using initials of South Korea’s official name, the Republic of Korea.

North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea on Wednesday, South Korea’s military said, hours after the US deployed B-1B bombers for allied air drills.

The latest launch came a day before South Korea and the US wrap up 11 days of combined military drills, which Pyongyang has long denounced as a war rehearsal.

Focus on security as PM Modi meets Bhutan king

PM Narendra Modi and visiting Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck reviewed bilateral cooperation Tuesday and discussed issues of national interests in a meeting, amid renewed efforts by Bhutan to demarcate parts of its boundary with China and uncertainty over the Doklam tri-junction.
While asserting the government was closely following all developments that had a bearing on India’s national interests, and would take all necessary measures to safeguard those, foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra also said ties with Bhutan were based on shared values including mutual sensitivity to each other’s concerns. The government reiterated its earlier statements on Doklam that said tri-junctions had to be finalised in consultation with all concerned countries.

“I would say that India and Bhutan remain in close touch relating to our shared interests, including security. I would only reiterate earlier statements on this issue which very explicitly bring out our position on trijunction boundary points,” said Kwatra on the Doklam issue, while not denying that the boundary issue was discussed in the king’s meeting with Modi.

India maintains that any attempt to determine the tri-junction must be in line with the 2012 agreement between India and China that the tri-junction boundary points between India, China and third countries “will be finalized in consultation with the concerned countries’’. India had accused Beijing of violating this agreement in 2017 when China started to construct a road in the Doklam area.
The meeting also saw Modi reiterating India’s continued and full support to the socio-economic development in Bhutan, said the foreign secretary.
