Shubh’s tour in India cancelled: Why is the Canada-based singer facing the music?

The famous Punjabi singer and rapper shared a distorted map of India on Instagram in March, amid the police crackdown against self-proclaimed Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and his associates.

Hailing from Punjab and now settled in Canada, Shubh burst onto the scene with his breakout debut single ‘We Rollin’ in September 2021. His blend of catchy hip-hop and trap beats and fast lyrical flow, gained massive popularity as he released several hit singles. (Photo: X/@Shubhworldwide)

The upcoming tour of Punjabi singer and rapper Shubhneet Singh, popularly known by his stage name ‘Shubh’, was cancelled on Wednesday (September 20), days after he made headlines for his alleged support for Khalistan and separatists.

Ticketing platform BookMyShow, in a post on X, said: “Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India stands cancelled. To that end, BookMyShow has initiated a complete refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who had purchased tickets for the show. The refund will be reflected within 7-10 working days in the customer’s source account of the original transaction.”

The wait is over: The Rolling Stones will soon release new music.

On Monday, the band announced they are preparing to release their first album of original material in 18 years — since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang.”

Titled “Hackney Diamonds,” the band will share details of the release at an event in East London’s Hackney district on Wednesday, where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood will be interviewed live by “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon.

The event will be livestreamed exclusively on YouTube on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. BST, 9:30 a.m. EST and 6:30 a.m. PST.

“Hackney may be at the heart of Hackney Diamonds, but this is a truly global moment we want to share with fans around the world via YouTube,” the Rolling Stones shared in a statement.

The announcement of “Hackney Diamonds” follows a cryptic teaser campaign, in which the band’s iconic mouth and tongue logo was projected onto the façade of major landmarks in cities around the world, including New York, London and Paris.

The album is also the Stones’ first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

Steve Harwell, Former Lead Singer of Smash Mouth, Dies at 56

Steve Harwell, the good-natured co-founder and the original lead singer of Smash Mouth — the late ‘90s California-based band renowned for ska-tinged hits such as “Walkin’ on the Sun” and the perennial anthem “All Star” — Harwell died at his home in Boise, Idaho, on Monday. The musician was in hospice care owing to multiple health complications; he was 56.

Harwell’s manager Robert Hayes confirmed the news to Variety, writing in a statement, “Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom. And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable. His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones. Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out.”

Over the last decade Harwell, who had long struggled with alcohol abuse, also suffered from a number of ailments that impacted his motor functions, speech and memory, which increasingly impacted his performances. By October 2021, after a concert in Bethel, N.Y., where the singer appeared to be intoxicated and threatened audience members, he announced his retirement from Smash Mouth due to ongoing health issues.

“Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of being a Rockstar performing in front of sold-out arenas and have been so fortunate to live out that dream,” he said in a statement at the time. “To my bandmates, it’s been an honor performing with you all these years and I can’t think of anyone else I would have rather gone on this wild journey with.”

Born Steven Scott Harwell on January 9, 1967 in Santa Clara, Calif., Harwell started his career as a Chuck D-inspired rapper for the hip-hop ensemble F.O.S. (Freedom of Speech), which released a single titled “Big Black Boots” in 1993. However, he shifted gears to alt-rock and formed Smashmouth — originally styled as one word — with childhood friend/ drummer Kevin Coleman and two veterans of the San Jose punk band Lackadaddy, songwriter-guitarist Greg Camp and bassist Paul De Lisle.

When San Jose radio station KOME-FM began airing a demo of the group’s song “Nervous in the Alley,” the group signed with powerhouse Interscope Records, split their name into two words, and released their debut album, “Fush Yu Mang,” in 1997.

Taylor Swift Becomes First Female Artist to Hit 100 Million Monthly Spotify Listeners

Michael Buckner for Variety

It’s not a cruel summer after all, as Taylor Swift has become the first female artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.

The music streaming platform announced the news Tuesday via Spotify’s social pages, writing: “Queen behavior. On August 29th, Taylor Swift became the first female artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.”

The Weeknd holds the No. 1 spot for most monthly listeners on the app with more than 110 million. He breached 100 million, setting the Spotify record, in February. Bad Bunny comes in at No. 3 with 80 million, followed by Ed Sheeran with 77 million.

The news comes after Swift released her third re-recorded album this July, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” The album debuted at No. 1, landing atop the Billboard 200 with 716,000 album-equivalent units. “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” too, garnered Swift the accolade of being the first woman to have four albums grace the top 10 of Billboard’s album chart at once — making her the third artist in history to ever do so.

While on the final leg of her U.S. Eras Tour at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium, Swift announced that her “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” project would debut this fall. The announcement was not much of a surprise to fans, as the artist had left behind a trail of Easter eggs, affirming the re-recorded album’s Oct. 27 release date.

“So now, here we are on the last night of the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour, in the eighth month of the year, and the ninth day,” Swift teased fans. “Notice there’s some new outfits in the show,” she said, hinting at the slew of subtle hints she had been dropping.

Kanye West is back.

The controversial rapper-turned-fashion designer performed for the first time since his antisemitic rants as he joined Travis Scott for his “Utopia” concert at Rome’s Circus Maximus Monday.

While introducing him to the audience, Scott described Ye as the “only one human being on this mother f—king planet that has ever walked side by side with me through anything and every mother f—king thing.”

The crowd then erupted as West, 46, performed “Praise God” — a song from his 2021 album, “Donda,” featuring Scott, 32.

The “Utopia” rapper called Ye the only person who has “walked side by side with [him] through anything.”

The Grammy winner seemed a bit out of practice as he missed most of the lyrics, but was saved by the backing track.

Per a video of the performance, he then went on to perform “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” from his 2007 album, “Graduation.”

Despite their musical collaborations, West and Scott are also related by way of the mothers of their children.

Ye was previously married to Kim Kardashian, whom he shares four children with. Meanwhile, Scott has two children with Kardashian’s youngest sister, Kylie Jenner.

In October 2022, the Yeezy founder caused a firestorm when he tweeted that he wanted “to go death con 3 ON JEWISH PEOPLE.”

“The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew,” he continued in a series of now-deleted tweets.

“also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

The “Gold Digger” rapper also shared screenshots via Instagram of messages between himself and Diddy, in which he wrote, “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”
