Hollywood was seemingly not on its right foot this past week with the inevitable happenings of Kanye West and his escalated drama online which subsequently led to his suspension from Instagram following his and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson’s text exchanges were leaked online. The whole farce finally reached its climax this week and as most hope its ending too. Besides a truckload of Kanye West headlines, we too had other happenings that shook Hollywood. Scroll down further to get a quick recap of all that went down in Hollywood in the last week.
Kanye West loses Grammy performance slot
Following his use of racial slurs directed at Trevor Noah after he released a segment concerning the problem of women’s safety through the Kanye West-Kim Kardashian online feud, the rapper was not only suspended from Instagram for 24-hours but also dropped from the list of performers on Grammy 2022 due to his “concerning online behaviour” despite being nominated for 5 categories this year.
Kanye West has been barred from performing at the Grammy Awards due to his “concerning online behavior,” a rep for the artist confirms to Variety. Reps for the Recording Academy and CBS, which present the Grammys, did not immediately respond to Variety‘s requests for comment on the claim early Saturday.
West’s rep cited a report in the Blast posted late Friday claiming that the artist’s team received a phone call Friday night informing him he had been “unfortunately” removed from the lineup of performers for the show due to his “concerning online behavior.” While West, who is up for five 2022 Grammy Awards, was not among the first list of performers announced on Tuesday, he may have been a planned performer. A rep for West sent Variety a link to that story, saying only “This is confirmed”; the rep did not respond to requests for further information, although the Blast report states, “Our sources say Kanye’s team isn’t surprised by the decision.”
Nor should they be. While Academy reps did not respond to requests for comment, there are many reasons why a Kanye West performance on live network television would be a prohibitively risky proposition. Based on his social media posts and activity in the past few months alone, he might use the stage to continue his online harassment of Pete Davidson, his estranged wife Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend; he could attempt to lobby public sentiment for custody of his children; he could make some statement in support of accused sex offender Marilyn Manson or unrepentant homophobe DaBaby, both of whom he has featured at his recent concerts or listening events; he could make more misguided statements about slavery or revive his stumping for former President Trump. Conversely, he could use the platform to do something that isn’t self-serving, self-referential or sheer trolling, like when he unexpectedly said “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” during a televised Hurricane Katrina fundraiser in 2005.
KANYE West has been “BANNED” from Instagram for at least 24 hours.
This comes after a marathon of violent threats towards his ex, Kim Kardashian, her new beau Pete Davidson and other stars.
A spokesperson for Meta told TMZ that Kanye’s recent posts “violated Instagram’s policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying.”
The outlet was told his account has been suspended for 24 hours.
The 44-year-old won’t be able to post, comment, or send direct messages.
The spokesperson for the parent company of Instagram (Meta is also known as Facebook) continued that they’ll “take additional steps if further violations happen.”
Earlier on March 16, the musician took to Instagram to share a fan comment and a message of concern for Kim, 41.
The father-of-four posted a screenshot of a follower’s comment reading: “The way Skete used Kim’s marital status to address Kanye was a sneak diss to her & she didn’t even catch it.”
Kanye captioned his post, seemingly slamming the comedian’s past drug use: “Im really concerned that SKETE will get my kids mom hooked on drugs He’s in rehab every 2 months.”
The fan comment referred to a leaked harsh text exchange between Pete and Kanye earlier this week.
The latest chapter in their months-long personal war began with the Saturday Night Live star apparently reaching out to the rapper.
“Yo it’s Skeet,” Pete texted, referencing the nickname Kanye gave him. “Can you please take a second to calm down?
