Louis Kimber has torn up the cricket County Championship record book in an outstanding innings that saw him take 43 runs off a single over.

England bowler Ollie Robinson had a game to forget as the Leicestershire batter put in a historic performance.

Kimber not only hit 43 off Robinson, breaking the record for most runs in one over, he also scored the fastest double hundred from balls faced (100), and most sixes hit (21).

Despite the 27-year-old’s heroics, Leicestershire fell 18 runs short of victory against Sussex.

Fireworks erupted in the 59th over, when Kimber smashed the record 43 off Robinson in an over with nine balls – as the England seamer overstepped three times.

Kimber then hit two sixes and six fours on his way to 41 boundaries across the match.

But he fell agonisingly short of dragging his side to victory when he was bowled out by Nathan McAndrew with only 19 runs needed for victory.

Kimber said: “You don’t get many days like that in your career, it was unbelievable really.

“It’s just a shame we couldn’t get over the line, but personally you have to enjoy days like that. It was good fun.

“I just tried to be positive and see what happened. I got a bit of luck here and there but you need that.

“Most of the lads have told me to remember it because days like this don’t come around too often.

“My phone has been buzzing and the records I have broken are pretty cool.”
