A woman was found dead inside the stomach of a snake in central Indonesia after it swallowed her whole. The woman, Farida, was discovered inside a python, which measured around five metres (16 feet) long.
Several people in Indonesia have died after being swallowed by pythons. However, such incidents are rare.
Farida, who is a mother of four, had been reported missing after she did not return home on Thursday night, Suardi Rosi, the village head, told AFP.
Suardi said that her husband “found her belongings… which made him suspicious. The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a large belly.”
“They agreed to cut open the python’s stomach. As soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible,” he added.
Farida was found fully clothed inside the snake.
Indonesia has witnessed similar incidents in the past.
Last year, residents of Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district killed a python that was around eight metres long after it was found eating and strangling a farmer.
In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-metre python in Muna town in Southeast Sulawesi. In another incident that took place in the previous year, a farmer was found after he was eaten alive by a four-metres-long python in West Sulawesi at a palm oil plantation.
