Back in 2017, Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan threw a grand welcome party for singer Ed Sheeran and the who’s who of Bollywood turned up to welcome the international sensation. In attendance were Shah Rukh Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Shahid Kapoor-Mira Rajput, Rajkummar Rao, Patralekhaa, Rhea Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan among others.
Farah recently opened up on the party. Speaking to Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, she said that when her cousin from London reached out to her about showing Ed Sheeran around in Mumbai, she had no idea who he was. Said Farah, “My cousin brother, who is a lawyer in a music company in London, texted me and said, ‘Ed Sheeran is coming to Bombay, can you please show him around? He wants to see a bit of Bollywood.’ Toh, mereko pata hee nahi hai Ed Sheeran kaun hai! Mujhe laga iska koi faltu dost hai. Pile on. I ignored him. He texted again, ‘Ed Sheeran wants to meet you can you take him around?’ I ignored again.”
It wasn’t until her aunt inquired about the matter that Farah became curious about why everyone was so insistent. Seeking clarity, she called Abhishek Bachchan, asking him, “Who is Ed Sheeran?” He said, “He’s just the number one singer in the world.”
She went on to say that she slammed the DJ at the party for playing Ed Sheeran songs. “I said, ‘yeh maiyyat ke music kyun baja raha hai? (Why is playing sombre music?)’ The DJ said those were Ed Sheeran hits!” She added that he was a lovely guest. “Usko apne gaane sunne hee nahi the. Usko Bollywood ke gaano pe dance karna tha (He didn’t want to listen to his own songs. He wanted to dance to Bollywood songs).”
