Excise policy case: Delhi court sends BRS leader K Kavitha to judicial custody till April 9

This comes after the BRS leader K Kavitha was brought to the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi at the end of her Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody in the excise policy case for which the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also finds himself in the custody of the central agency.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja remanded the MLC leader and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to judicial custody.

She was produced before the court after her custodial interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate.

Kavitha was arrested from her residence at Hyderabad on March 15 in the money laundering case lodged in August, 2022, in which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also arrested on March 21.

Since her arrest, she remained in the ED’s custody for interrogation.

On March 22, the Supreme Court had declined to consider her plea against the arrest, asking her to approach the trial court, saying it can’t allow bypassing the statutory provisions and procedure just because she was a politician and afford to approach the top court.

The ED alleged that Kavitha was a part of the South lobby which had paid an illegal gratification of Rs 100 crores in cash to the politicians and public servants in Delhi for manipulating the liquor policy of the Delhi government and she was also a major beneficiary of it.
