Vivian Richards and Carl Hooper have demanded an apology from Brian Lara for his remarks that Richards used to make Carl Hooper cry once a week. Lara made the remarks in his book and wrote that Richards’ voice was intimidating and he used to make Lara cry once in three weeks but Carl Hooper cried every week. The remarks did not sit well with Richards and Hooper who released a statement and denied Lara’s claims.

Former West Indies captain Brian Lara finds himself in the middle of a controversy as he has been asked to issue an apology by former teammates Carl Hooper and Vivian Richards. Hooper and Richards were upset at Lara for his false statement that Richards’ tone was very intimidating in the dressing room and he made Carl Hooper cry once a week. The remarks did not sit well with Lara’s teammates and they asked the West Indies legend to issue an apology.
“Sir Vivian Richards and Mr. Carl Hooper are deeply disheartened by the gross misrepresentations made about them in Mr. Brian Lara’s recently released book,” the duo said in a statement put out by Hooper. “The allegations presented not only distort the reality of their relationship but also impugn their characters in an unjust and harmful manner,” said a statement.
Lara made the statement in his book Lara: The England Chronicles. He wrote that Richards used to make him cry once in three weeks but Carl Hooper cried every week. Lara said that he was never affected by Richards words as he was a strong personality, however, added that Hooper shied away from the legendary cricketer.
“Viv used to make me cry every three weeks, but he would make Carl cry once a week. Viv’s tone of voice is intimidating and if you’re not strong enough, you can take that personally and be affected by it. Me, I was never really affected by it. In a way I welcomed it, because I was so much under his arm that I knew abuse was coming and I was a strong personality. Carl? I know for a fact that Carl shied away from Viv Richards, ” wrote Lara.
