Asian Games Medal Tally: India Remain 4th; Medal Haul Rises to 86 With 21 Gold, 32 Silver, 33 Bronze

Another day, another piece of history at the Asian Games as India’s medal tally rose to 86 including 21 gold, 32 silver and 33 bronze medals. On Day 12, October 5, the Indian contingent won a total of five medals, including three gold, a silver and a bronze each.

The day started with the women’s archery team winning a historic gold for India. The trio of Jyothi Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur beat Chinese Taipei in a thrilling finale, winning 230-229.

The Indian men’s compound archery team ensured that there was more joy to follow, the trio of Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale & Prathmesh added another gold to India’s kitty. The Indian archers beat South Korea in the final with a score of 235-230.

In the squash mixed doubles final, the pair of Deepika Pallikal Karthik and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu ousted the Malaysian pair of Kamal-Binti in two straight games with scores of 11-10, 11-10, securing a third gold medal on Thursday.

Saurav Ghosal added another medal in squash, the 37-year-old finished second best in the men’s singles final, losing 1-3 to Malaysia’s Eain Yow and bagged a silver medal. Ghosal won the first game 11-9 but was overpowered in the remaining three games.

Last but not the least, Antim Panghal, the 19-year-old wrestler added a fifth medal on Day 12. Panghal beat Bat-Ochir Bolortuya from Mongolia 3-1 in the bronze medal match of the women’s 53 kg freestyle event.

India’s badminton doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty assured the nation of yet another medal, after the pair won their quarterfinal match against the Malaysian pair, storming into the semis.

Indian men’s Kabaddi team also set up a semifinal clash against Pakistan, as the seven-time gold medallists emerged winners from Pool A, with a 100 percent win record after they beat Japan 56-37.
