Apple Enters The Mixed Reality Arena
Apple continues to build momentum for its supposed big-ticket announcement in the Mixed Reality arena. The company has reportedly been working on a new platform called realityOS and the hardware to bundle this software is likely to be showcased or at least talked about at the WWDC 2023 keynote. Adding further spice to these rumours is the latest easter egg on Apple’s event page which teases AR with the WWDC 2023 date morphing in the Apple logo.
Apple seems to have a lot riding on this XR headset which has been met with scepticism internally but Tim Cook and Co. seem confident to go ahead with its public bow. And being an Apple product means the XR headset is expected to have an eye-catching price tag, and have features like a 4K micro OLED display with 5,000 nits peak brightness. Many companies have dabbled in the XR space but all these brands will now keep a close eye on Apple to see what the company has to bring into the market.
New iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS Versions
As we said, WWDC is the platform where the new Apple software versions are detailed and this year’s event is expected to have the new iOS 17 version, the unnamed macOS version, the watchOS 10 version and more. We have already seen reports talking about the expected features of iOS 17 which may or may not support sideloading apps on iPhone, the first-ever Apple product to have the feature thanks to the new EU rules.
The Control Centre is also likely to get new features. For iPad users, the iPadOS 17 version should build on the multi-tasking ability of the device and also align itself for the upcoming OLED iPad Pro models.
You could also have some new always-on display features for better customisations and how the imaging quality improves. With the watchOS version, Apple is expected to bring widgets back to the Apple Watch which means you could have third-party apps pinned on the main screen. A new interface is also part of the wish list and these will be presented with the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 later this year.
The xrOS also gets its space, as the company shares the details about how the platform will power the XR headset.
