300 Tourists Stranded in Uttarakhand After Landslide Washes Away Lipulekh-Tawaghat Road, 13 Districts on Alert

A landslide in Uttarakhand has left around 3,000 travellers stranded in Pithoragarh district. Pilgrims, tourists and locals are among those affected. They are being given food and water, but are struggling without basic amenities. The police have issued a safety advisory, warning pilgrims to travel only when weather conditions are good, and to park vehicles in safe places.

Uttarakhand Landslide: As many as 300 travellers are stranded in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand after a massive landslide cut off a crucial Lipulekh-Tawaghat road. As per a report, the tourists are stuck in Dharchula and Gunji after the crucial road was washed away 100 metres following the landslide. The Lipulekh-Tawaghat road is a popular route for pilgrims traveling to the Kedarnath shrine.

The stranded travellers include pilgrims, tourists, and locals. They are being provided with food and water, but they are facing difficulties due to the lack of access to basic amenities.

Police Issue Advisory

Meanwhile, the police have issued an advisory asking the tourists to stay in safe places. “Pilgrims please stay at safe places, do not travel unnecessarily, and park vehicles at safe places, landslides/geo. Travel only when the weather is clear,” the advisory reportedly said.

“All the devotees coming for Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham Yatra are requested to plan their journey after taking the weather forecast, keep rain cover, umbrella and woolen/warm clothes with them during the journey,” it added.
