With Rs 43 Lakh Education Loan To Repay, Family Of Indian Student Found Dead In US Says ‘Torture Is…’

His father, Mohammed Saleem, has now said that the family has to think about repaying the Rs 43 lakh education loan apart from waiting for his body to reach India. Earlier, Mohammed Saleem said that Arfath last spoke to him on March 7, and since then he had not been in touch with his family.

Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a 25-year-old Indian student, who was missing in the United States since last month, was found dead in Ohio’s Cleveland, according to the Indian embassy in New York. His father, Mohammed Saleem, has now said that the family has to think about repaying the Rs 43 lakh education loan apart from waiting for his body to reach India.

Hailing from Hyderabad’s Nacharam, Arfath moved to the United States in 2023 for a Master’s degree at Cleveland State University. He had been missing for nearly three weeks. The Indian embassy in New York had earlier said that it was in touch with Arfath’s family and was working with “law enforcement agencies to locate him.”

Arfath’s father, Mohammed Saleem, told The Indian Express, “The mental torture is that we do not know why this happened to him. We do not know what happened. There is no information. We have no clue… (we are) spending time in total darkness. We spent many harrowing weeks since his disappearance on March 7, and desperately hoped he would be found alive. But all we are getting back is his body.”
“His dream was to eventually settle in the US. He was delighted when the Rs 43 lakh education loan he had applied for was sanctioned,” Mohammed Saleem told the media outlet.
