Amid the various housing crises across the globe, a city in the United States has decided to sell vacant homes just for one dollar. Baltimore has brought back its 1970s programme of “one-dollar homes”.
In a world of housing crises, the US city of Baltimore has approved a programme to sell vacant houses for just $1. This programme, which was first introduced in the 1970s has been revived.
Buyers will be able to purchase the vacant home for just one dollar and then would be required to fix them at their own cost.
As per the Baltimore Sun, Mayor Brandon Scott supported this programme under which 200 vacant homes will be sold to those people who will repair and live in these houses.
With this new programme, the city hopes that residents will buy the vacant homes and fix them up. This programme, however, only caters to individual buyers. Small nonprofits can purchase the homes for $1,000 and developers and larger nonprofits would need to pay $3,000 in order to purchase one of these vacant homes.
