‘Pro-China propaganda’: NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha among two arrested in UAPA case

The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested two persons including NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha in connection with a probe in the portal’s foreign funding, officials said.

This comes after the Delhi Police searched 30 locations connected with the online news portal and its journalists in a case filed under the anti-terror law UAPA following allegations that it received money for pro-China propaganda.

Officials said the proceedings are still underway.

They said 37 male suspects were questioned at the office of Delhi Police Special Cell, while nine female suspects were quizzed at their respective places of stay.

Digital devices, documents and other items have been seized for examination, they said.

So far, two accused — NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakravarty — have been arrested, Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa said.

There was no immediate information on how Chakravarty is connected with the portal and the case.

In a shocking incident, a “poverty-stricken” migrant labourer and his wife killed their three minor daughters and stuffed their bodies in a trunk in their house in Muqsudan locality of Punjab’s Jalandhar district, police said on Monday.

The incident came to light after the police found the bodies of three girls, aged between nine and four years, from a trunk from inside their parents’ house in the locality during its search.

The couple had on Sunday reported to police that their daughters, namely, Amrita, 9, Sakshi, 7, and Kanchan, 4, were missing since morning.

Accused Couple filed missing complaint

The police said that the couple had informed police that their daughters who were playing in the locality’s street had not returned till 11 pm on Sunday.

However, when the police started investigating, searched the locality and talked to people, it was learnt that the girls were at home only since morning and had not come out.

Getting suspicious, the police also got to know from CCTV footage that nowhere were the girls seen outside in the locality and hence, the searched inside the house and found the girls’ bodies stuffed inside a trunk.

Man, seeking job, tries to breach PM Modi’s security in Varanasi; held

The man has been identified as a BJP worker and has been held. He was just 10 feet away from the Prime Minister’s car after he jumped. Police and security officials immediately caught him.

There was a breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Varanasi. A man jumped in front of PM Modi’s convoy in Varanasi, asking for a job. The incident took place outside the Rudraksh Centre in Varanasi, when PM Modi’s convoy was on its way to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport.

The man, identified as Krishna Kumar, is a BJP worker. He was held after and is being questioned. A resident of Ghazipur, the man was just 20 meters away from the Prime Minister’s convoy. Police and security officials immediately caught him.

According to the police, Krishna is a resident of Ghazipur and wanted to meet PM Modi. “Krishna Kumar, son of Bharat Kumar, is a senior BJP worker. He is mentally disturbed and wanted to meet PM Modi,” an official said.

In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in front of their children In Delhi’s Jafrabad are on Monday. The accused has been identified as Sajid. The accused reportedly killed his wife as he suspected her of having an extra-marital affair.

A quarrel erupted between the two over the issue. According to a report published in India Today, the accused attacked his wife Nisha in front of their two daughters. Sajid was arrested after the crime.

The elder daughter aged 11 years tried to intervene to save her mother but in vain. She sustained injuries on her hand. Nisha sustained multiple wounds on her neck, chest and hand, reported the media house.
