Engineer-turned-philanthropist and now a Rajya Sabha member, Sudha Murty, shared some priceless advice on marriage that every couple must listen to, especially husbands. When asked what advice she would give to young professionals who aspire to excel in their careers and also strive for a work-life balance, the Rajya Sabha MP shared some valuable insights.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Murty stressed the inevitability of disagreements in marriage, asserting, “When you are married, you are bound to fight. Accept that. If you have never fought, then you are not husband and wife.” She emphasised the need for one partner to remain composed when conflicts arise, stating, “When you fight, and one person is upset, the second should be cool, and should not open their mouth.”

Sharing insights from her own marriage, Murty highlighted the importance of maintaining calm during moments of anger. “When Murthy is angry, I will never talk. Let him pour out. I will not talk. When I am angry, he keeps quiet,” she revealed. She further advocated for maintaining composure to prevent escalation, stating, “You should never get upset together because that is the recipe for further fights.”

Murty highlighted the importance of give and take in any relationship and urged couples to help each other out in their day-to-day lives. She also specifically asked the husbands to contribute in the kitchen as she pointed out that now women are also going out to work so they need the support back at home.

“I want all men of this generation to help their wives in the kitchen. It is very important. Your wife who is an engineer should come back and cook as well as attend meetings, that should not happen. You have to share the burden of your wife. Then only the family can be happy and grow,” Sudha Murty said.
