The body of a 20-year-old medical aspirant was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room in Kota.
A 20-year-old medical aspirant was found hanging in his room just days before his third attempt at cracking the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam. A note found at the scene read: “Sorry papa, I couldn’t do it this year as well”.
The student, identified as Bharat Kumar Rajput, was from Rajasthan. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan on Tuesday morning. This is the second suspected suicide case in Kota in the past 48 hours.
Rajput had previously attempted the NEET exam twice and was set to appear for the third time on May 5.
He was staying as a paying guest in the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area and was preparing for the medical entrance exam for the past year. His nephew, Rohit, shared the room with him and was also preparing for Neet exams, police said.
Around 10.30 am on Tuesday, Rohit briefly left the room. He discovered his uncle’s lifeless body after he returned.
At around 11.15 am, when Rohit returned, he found the room was closed from the inside, so he peeped through a window and saw Bharat hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet, Jawahar Nagar Sub Inspector Gopal Singh was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The police recovered a note from the room, saying ‘Sorry Papa, main is saal bhi nahi kar paya’ (Sorry papa, I couldn’t do it this year as well).
According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest the pressure of underperformance in his third attempt may have pushed Rajput to take such a drastic step.
The body has been moved to the mortuary of MBS Hospital for post-mortem.
