Renowned actor and beloved television host, Shekhar Suman, made headlines as he officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s headquarters in Delhi on a momentous Tuesday, coinciding with the fervor of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. This move comes at a time when Shekhar is basking in the success of his acclaimed web series, Heeramandi, which has garnered widespread acclaim.
Having contested the Lok Sabha elections back in 2009 from Patna Sahib under the Congress banner, Shekhar faced a defeat against the seasoned actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha. Reflecting on his unexpected journey to the BJP, Shekhar expressed gratitude, remarking, “Till yesterday I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly. I have come here with a very positive thinking and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here.”
Reports suggest that Shekhar had been awaiting the success of Heeramandi before taking this significant step into the realm of politics. Addressing speculations about his motives, the versatile actor-comedian asserted, “People might say that I had nothing else to do, which is why I joined politics. Heeramandi has now become a global hit.” His decision to align with the BJP comes amidst a wave of political transitions within the entertainment industry, exemplified by television actress Rupali Ganguly’s recent induction into the party.
