Twenty-year-old Sahil Khan, who has been accused of killing his 16-year-old girlfriend by stabbing her and assaulting her with a concrete slab, was upset with the minor because she wanted to end the relationship, Delhi Police sources said.

Khan, who was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr on Monday evening and brought to Delhi, was produced at the Rohini court in Delhi on Tuesday and sent to police custody for two days.

Delhi Police sources said the accused and the deceased had a strained relationship. “It has been deduced that Sahil was upset with the minor because she was ignoring his calls and wanted to end the relationship. This angered him and he had threatened to kill her. He kept pressuring her to continue the relationship but she did not listen,” said an officer.

The police are interrogating Sahil and the minor’s family to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the fight and murder. The girl was living at a friend’s place for the last few weeks.

The minor was stabbed multiple times Sunday and then bludgeoned to death on a busy street in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area. None of the bystanders and locals stopped and helped her. CCTV footage of the incident showing the brutal assault went viral on social media.

The Delhi Police said they are yet to recover the murder weapon and are interrogating Sahil, who was brought to Delhi early Tuesday. Senior officers said the accused killed the girl around 8.45-9 pm and then fled to the Rithala area where he dumped the weapon.

“We found that he went to Rithala after the incident to dump the weapon. After this, he switched off his phone and boarded a bus to Bulandshahr. He went to his aunt’s place and was later traced with the help of technical surveillance,” an officer said.

A preliminary medical examination of the body of the victim revealed that she had more than 34 wounds on her body. Out of this, around 20 injuries are stab wounds. The slab that was used to hit her ruptured her skull, the police said.
