Jagpreet Singh, a resident of Punjab’s Ludhiana, allegedly stabbed his wife, identified as Balwinder Kaur (41), in Abbotsford, Canada last week (March 15).
According to a report by the Indian Express, Jagpreet Singh fatally stabbed his wife a week after reaching Canada and then video-called his family to inform them that he stabbed his wife.
The report also said, citing the deceased woman’s parents, that he was pestering her to arrange his travel to Canada, following which he visited Canada a week before the incident.
Rajwinder Kaur, sister of the deceased, while speaking to the newspaper alleged that Jagpreet made a video call to his mother and told her: “I have put her to sleep forever”.
Rajwinder also said that the accused was obsessed with thoughts of reaching Canada and the couple had frequent arguments because Jagpreet was unemployed which contributed to their financial troubles.
Jaspreet Singh, the accused’s younger brother, said the circumstances are still unclear and claimed the couple were a happy couple and had returned from shopping a few hours before the incident.
