Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday received a congratulatory call from US President Joe Biden, for the BJP-led NDA’s historic third term. The two leaders discussed national security adviser Jake Sullivan’s upcoming visit to New Delhi.

Sullivan is travelling to India to engage with the new government — likely to be formed under Modi — on shared US-India priorities, including trusted and strategic technology partnership.

On Wednesday (June 5), Biden congratulated Modi in a post on X and said he will work with him to further strengthen India-US relations. “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory, and the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election. The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential,” Biden said in a tweet.

Members of the Biden administration also congratulated Modi and the NDA with Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying the US will look to advance its partnership with India. “Congratulations to Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. The US looks forward to advancing our partnership with the Indian government and commends the estimated 650 million voters who exercised their right to vote,” Blinken said in a post on X.

The US State Department also released a statement congratulating Narendra Modi and the NDA. “The United States congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. With approximately 650 million voters casting their ballots over the past six weeks, these elections represent the largest exercise in democracy in human history. We commend Indian voters, poll workers, civil society, and journalists for their commitment and vital contributions to India’s democratic processes and institutions,” the statement said.
