After being shut down for a few hours, the Andheri subway has been reopened for traffic.
As Mumbai witnessed heavy showers on Thursday, the Andheri subway was closed to traffic due to a water-logging issue around 4:30 p.m.
The IMD has issued a ‘green’ alert for Mumbai, predicting moderate rainfall. “Light to moderate rainfall likely in Mumbai and suburbs today,” the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
Dhaval Shah, a resident of Andheri and co-founder of the Lokhandwala-Oshiwara Citizens Association, said, “The subway was closed by the authority around 4.30 pm. The work to de-watering the accumulated water started immediately. As there is continuous rain since morning, the water from nearby areas gets collected at the subway.”
The island city, eastern and western suburbs received an average rainfall of 42.25 mm, 47.22 mm, and 56.37 mm respectively in eight hours ending at 4 pm, the civic body’s data showed.
According to the BMC, a high tide of about 3.05 metres is expected to hit Mumbai at 4.43 pm today. Further, the BMC also stated that a low tide of about 1.67 metres is expected at 11.15 pm today.
