Tushar Gandhi, a great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi on Wednesday claimed that he was detained at Mumbai’s Santa Cruz Police Station as he left to commemorate Quit India Day.
“For the first time in the history of independent India, I have been detained at Santa Cruz Police Station as I left home to commemorate 9th August Quit India Day. I am proud My Great Grandparents Bapu and Ba had also been arrested by the British Police on the historic date,” Gandhi wrote on social media platform X.

81 years after Mahatma Gandhi was targeted by the British Police on Quit India Day on August 9, 1942, his great-grandson also faced a similar fate.
Tushar was on his way to the historic August Kranti Maidan in south Mumbai to pay homage to the people who lost their lives in the Quit India Movement when he was halted in his tracks by the Santacruz Police.
