The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and sand mafia Subhash Yadav on corruption charges. The agency conducted a 14-hour raid at 6 locations associated with Yadav.
The leader was arrested late at night from his residence along with a cash of Rs 2 crore and several land and investment papers were seized. Subhash Yadav is now sent to Judicial custody under tight security. The leader is also a close aide of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Yadav is alleged to be involved in sand mining in Bihar and had contested elections on an RJD ticket in the past, according to the sources.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is acting in response to a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) investigation that was started after the Bihar Police filed 20 First Information Reports (FIRs) against M/s Broadsons Commodities Pvt Ltd (BCPL), whose director is Subhash Yadav. Serious issues over environmental regulations and revenue losses were raised by the FIRs, which accused BCPL of engaging in illicit sand mining and selling without the usage of e-challans.
The unlawful sale of sand produced an astounding Rs 161 crore, according to the PMLA inquiry. According to reports, a syndicate is in charge of the illegal sand trade; its members profit from the unapproved sales of sand by investing money in businesses like BCPL.
