The Congress has maintained that Shivakumar was offering money to the folk artists who performed during the ‘Praja Dhwani Yatra’ organised by the party in Bevinahalli in Mandya district.

Karnataka BJP Wednesday filed a complaint against state Congress president DK Shivakumar after videos of him showering currency notes on crowds during a roadshow emerged on Tuesday.

BJP leaders submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission seeking action against Shivakumar for allegedly throwing money at voters, even as the Congress maintained that he was offering money to the folk artists who performed during the ‘Praja Dhwani Yatra’ organised by the party in Bevinahalli in Mandya district.

Reacting to the video, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the incident showed how Shivakumar blatantly “misused all kinds of powers”.

Throwing notes, he said, was a sign of how the Congress treated the people. “Congress party thinks that people are beggars. The people will teach him (Shivakumar),” he said.
