Kanhaiya Kumar (37), who has served as the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, will take on Bhojpuri actor-singer and incumbent BJP MP Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi.
The Congress on Sunday released a fresh list of ten candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has fielded Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar.
Kanhaiya Kumar (37), who has served as the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, will take on Bhojpuri actor-singer and incumbent BJP MP Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi when the capital city goes to poll on May 25.
In 2019, Kanhaiya Kumar contested on a Communist Party of India (CPI) ticket from Bihar’s Begusarai, wherein he had lost to Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh. Later, he joined the Congress in 2021.
Meanwhile, Manoj Tiwari is BJP’s two-time MP from North East Delhi seat after he defeated former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Additionally, Congress has fielded senior leader Jai Prakash Agarwal from Chandni Chowk. Agarwal will take on Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Secretary Praveen Khandelwal, who is contesting on a BJP ticket, replacing two-time MP and former Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
The party has also fielded Udit Raj from North West Delhi. The BJP has fielded Yogendra Chandolia from the seat, replacing its sitting MP Hans Raj Hans.
