The alarming rise in cases of heart attacks among individuals while engaging in physical activities such as dancing and playing has sparked concerns and prompted a research initiative by IIT Kanpur.

In the past one to two years, there has been a significant increase in the number of middle-aged people suffering from sudden heart attacks, often resulting in deaths captured in viral videos.

These incidents have left experts puzzled, unable to find the exact cause of these sudden heart attacks.

In cognisance to this, IIT Kanpur has undertaken a comprehensive research project to review the situation. The institute will collaborate with other prestigious institutions and invite researchers from around the world who specialise in heart attacks.

A specialised detection system to identify early signs of heart attacks is also being developed as part of the initiative.

The Gangwal School of Medical Science and Technology, currently under construction at IIT Kanpur, will lead the effort to identify the underlying causes of heart attacks during physical activities. The system will be capable of alerting individuals to the possibility of a heart attack. This system will use a Cardio Electrophysiology Simulator based on data from advanced MRI and ECG scans.

IIT Kanpur, and institutions like Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), will work collaboratively in this research.
