New Delhi: A report carried by an international newspaper Sunday claimed that the Turkish government has imposed a comprehensive ban on exporting military equipment to India in favour of Pakistan. The decision was taken at a closed-door session in the Turkish Parliament, reported The EurAsian Times, attributing the information to the deputy chairman of the Presidency of the Defense Industry (SSB), Turkey’s top arms procurement agency.

The report – which comes at a time when the two countries have been found in opposite corners on geostrategic issues – found space in some news websites.

However, a Fact Check by Times Now revealed that the news information was incorrect. Both the Ministry of External Affairs and the Turkish Ambassador to India Firat Sunel have called out the information as incorrect.

“Your question regarding Turkey, we have seen some reports. As far as my knowledge is concerned and information is concerned, that information is not good. So I will refer you to please take that question to the Turkish Embassy who can for short give you an answer because it is a post which generated in Turkey. To my understanding, to the best of my knowledge, it is disinformation at best,” MEA spokesperson told Times Now.
