The trailer of Kalki 2898 AD has generated a huge buzz on the internet, thanks to the film’s incredible cast that boasts of Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan. Apart from its innovative plot line and grand scale, what grabbed everyone’s attention was mom-to-be Deepika sporting a baby bump in the movie (Note: Deepika is expecting her first baby with actor-husband Ranveer Singh). According to various theories surrounding the film’s plot, Deepika’s unborn child will be an avatar of Kalki, and hence her character will play a significant role in the story.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Deepika has taken on the role of a mother whose character has a major significance in the movie. Fans pointed out that Deepika has been acing the roles of mother in Bollywood lately. She previously played Ranbir’s mother in Brahmastra Part One: Shiva which was the first part of the planned trilogy in the Astraverse by Ayan Mukerji. The film also starred Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni. The storyline of Brahmastra focuses on the story of Shiva (Ranbir), a young DJ and an orphan, who discovers that he is born with a special power that makes him immune to fire.
Last year, Deepika Padukone played Shah Rukh Khan’s mother in Jawan. In the film, Shah Rukh appeared in dual roles as Captain Vikram Rathore and his son Azad, while Deepika was seen in a special cameo. Her portrayal of Aishwarya, the wife of Vikram Rathore and mother of Azad, garnered much love and appreciation from the audience. Talking about the movie and the love she received for it, Deepika said, “I have no words to say except thank you so much for all the love. I really just did this for my love for Shah Rukh and everyone knows the relationship that we share. And I didn’t anticipate for this to become so special but I’m just proud and happy to be here and support the team.”
