Former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo HD Deve Gowda issued a stern warning on Thursday to his grandson, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who faces multiple sexual abuse allegations, urging him to return, surrender to the police, and face the legal process, or face the anger of the Gowda family.

In an official statement shared on social media platform X, the former prime minister wrote, “I have issued a warning to @iPrajwalRevanna to return immediately from wherever he is and subject himself to the legal process. He should not test my patience any further.”

“This is not an appeal I am making. It is a warning that I am issuing. If he does not heed this warning, he will have to face my anger and the anger of all his family members,” said the former PM in his letter bearing the letterhead of the National President of the Janata Dal (Secular).

Gowda, making a stern but emotionally charged statement, asserted that while the law will handle the accusations, Prajwal’s disregard for family concerns would lead to his isolation. “If he has any respect left for me, he has to return immediately.”

LETTER TITLED “MY WARNING TO PRAJWAL REVANNA”

In his two-page letter titled “My Warning to Prajwal Revanna,” Gowda explained that though he addressed the media regarding the Prajwal case on May 18, it took him some time to recover from the shock and pain inflicted on him, the JDS party workers, his entire family, and friends.

Gowda further stated in his letter that he cannot convince people that he was unaware of Prajwal’s activities, nor does he have the ability to convince them that he has no desire to shield his grandson.

“I cannot convince people that I am unaware of his movements and that I was unaware of his foreign trip. I believe in answering my conscience. I believe in Gowda, and I know the Almighty knows the truth,” the senior JDS leader said in his letter.

Additionally, Gowda said he will not defend or venture to clarify the various political conspiracies, exaggerations, provocations, and falsehoods that have been spread with malicious intent, and said he has left it to people to be answerable to God for their comments and statements.

Referring to HD Kumaraswamy’s recent appeal for Prajwal’s return, the JD(S) supremo emphasised their stance that the harshest punishment must be accorded to Prajwal if found guilty.

Prajwal, who left the country on a diplomatic passport for Germany on April 2, is facing an SIT investigation into a series of allegations of sexual abuse, videos of which were allegedly distributed on pen drives just before the first phase of polls in Karnataka.

SIDDARAMAIAH SEEKS HELP FROM PM MODI

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging intervention to bring Prajwal back for questioning.

Siddaramaiah urged the PM to treat the “matter with utmost seriousness and take prompt and necessary actions to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna, under Section l0(3)(h) of the Passport Act, 1967, or under any other relevant law and secure his return to the country in the interest of public.”

Gowda, in his letter, also stressed the importance for him to earn back the trust of the people of Karnataka.

“They have stood by me for over 60 years of my political life, and I am deeply indebted to them. As long as I am alive, I will never let them down,” Gowda said in his letter addressed to Prajwal.
