A tech expert has said that while technology moves on in leaps and bounds, there is a danger than relying too heavily on AI could create a talent vacuum in the music world
Coachella will suffer from “confusion” and a “vacuum of talent” if more and more artists continue to lean on AI tech in their performances, an expert has claimed.
The revelation comes as more and more DJs turn to advanced software to help their sets run smoothly. However, when the equipment goes wrong, it is anything but smooth.
Jeremy Sharp, who is a DJ, producer, software engineer and technology empowerer, believes that the industry is at risk of a talent vacuum, and creativity is suffering as AI tech thrives.
He told the Daily Star: “If you’re looking to get to the crux of the dependency on tech problem – it’s the vacuum of talent it’s going to create. If we’re just going to let computers do the creative bit, we’re not going to have any talented people any more.
“When you get a DJ up in front of a crowd it’s a whole lot of smoke and mirrors.
“That DJ could be sweating their ass off doing some of the most intricate mixing, and just using sheer genius on their part. Or they could be playing a pre-written mix that’s been all done automatically by software, or even by someone else.
“And that’s the biggest confusion aspect to the whole thing.
“I can say write me a song in the style of Freddie Mercury, and it’ll give me a new Queen hit.
