The widows of soldiers killed in the 2019 Pulwama attack are protesting in Jaipur, demanding jobs for families, and other issues. On Friday, the Rajasthan police removed the widows from the protest site outside Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s house and shifted them to hospitals near their respective homes.
The widows have been protesting since February 28, demanding a change in rules so that their relatives and not just children can get government jobs on compassionate grounds. Their other demands include construction of roads and installation of statues of the martyrs in their villages.
Meanwhile, the Bhatatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the state government, calling the police action “an insult to the widows” and accused the state of not fulfilling the promises made to the families.
Scores of BJP workers and leaders were detained by Rajasthan Police on Saturday as the saffron party continued its mega protest in Jaipur over the issue.
During the protest, the BJP workers pelted stones and breached barricades, prompting the police to resort to lathicharge.
