The Bharatiya Janata Party released the 8th list of candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. The list includes the names of 11 candidates including former IPS officer Debashish Dhar from West Bengal’s Birbhum and Preneet Kaur from Punjab’s Patiala.
Debasish Dhar, a 2010 batch IPS officer resigned from his service on March 20 to join politics. In his resignation, he wrote that due to personal reasons and to achieve social goals in his life, he is resigning.
The BJP on Sunday named two candidates from West Bengal, three from Odisha and six from Punjab. It has so far announced its candidates for 411 seats.
The saffron party has still has not given any candidate for Diamond Harbour and Asansol seats. This time, the party has replaced actor Sunny Deol and has given Gurdaspur ticket to Dinesh Singh Babbu.
Government doctor, Pranat Tudu resigned from his position and will now contest from BJP ticket from West Bengal’s Jhargram. Other candidates include Ravneet singh Bittu from Ludhiana, Hansraj Hans from Faridkot, Taranjeet Sandhu from Amritsar, Sushil Kumar Rinku from Jalandhar, Sukanta Kumar from Kandhamal among others.
Former Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu will be making his poll debut from Amritsar.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kickstart the BJP’s Lok Sabha poll campaign in Uttarakhand by addressing a public meeting at Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district on April 2. Elections to the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand are scheduled to be held in the first phase on April 19. All the five seats are with the ruling BJP since 2014.
