Bengal State Election Commissioner Rajiv Sinha appeared at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday, after Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose summoned him to the Raj Bhavan over the unrest surrounding the submission of nomination papers for the state’s upcoming panchayat polls.

After Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury drew the governor’s attention to the incident, the governor further asked Sinha to explain steps taken to contain incidents of violence in the Murshidabad district, where a Congress worker was killed after a group of unidentified assailants shot at him and two others.

The Congress and the BJP met the governor separately to highlight the turmoil in the nomination process.
