Bad Newz box office collection day 1: Vikcy Kaushal and Trpitii Dimri’s film is expected to pick up over the weekend.
Vicky Kaushal-starrer Bad Newz released in theatres on Friday and the Anand Tiwari directorial has started its box office journey by making Rs 8.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This is quite impressive considering the last film that made more money than this on its opening day was Eid release Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. BMCM made Rs 16 crore on opening day but fell flat soon after. The opening day figures also make Bad Newz the biggest opener of Vicky’s career so far as this record was previously held by 2019’s Uri, which made Rs 8.2 crore on opening day and went on to make over Rs 245 crore in India.
The overall occupancy for Bad Newz on opening day was just 22.83 percent with most people catching the film’s night shows. In Mumbai, where there are 835 shows, the occupancy observed was 20.75 percent. In Delhi and NCR, the occupancy witnessed 26 percent with 1054 shows. Film distributors and exhibitors were quite excited for Bad Newz as the film’s team aced its promotions and it held strong promise. The number of screens designated to Bad Newz is far more than Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira ever got. Sarfira, on it’s opening day had 472 shows in Mumbai and 570 shows in Delhi and NCR, Bad Newz has double the shows than Sarfira.
Trade experts are expecting Bad Newz to pick up over the weekend. In fact, a Pinkvilla report suggests that the film will earn over Rs 30 crore in its first weekend.
Bad Newz is being bracketed with films like Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which were both targeted towards city audiences. Crew started its box office journey with Rs 10.28 crore and went on to make Rs 89.92 crore, and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya started it box office journey with Rs 7.02 crore and went on to make Rs 80.88 crore.
