A six-month-old baby with congenital heart disease faces severe breathing problems during a Ranchi-Delhi IndiGo flight saved by two doctors on board.
The parents were taking the baby to Delhi for treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Concerned parents on the flight alerted the cabin crew about the situation, prompting an announcement on the flight asking if there were any doctors on board.
The doctors on board quickly assessed the situation and used an adult-sized oxygen mask to provide oxygen to the child. After reviewing the child’s medical records, they administered other emergency medications, including a theophylline injection. Additionally, the parents had a Dexona injection with them, which proved helpful in managing the situation.
“The mother was crying as the baby was gasping for breath. Dr. Mozammil and I took over the care of the baby. Oxygen was supplied through an adult mask as somehow no baby mask or cannula was available,” Dr. Kulkarni said, as per the PTI report.
