PM Modi At G7 Summit: 10 Points

1. The G7 summit took place in Italy’s Apulia region, where India was invited as an ‘Outreach Country’ by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The summit included participation from the seven-member nations—the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and France—along with the European Union.
2. In an address at the summit, PM Modi said that the world needs to end monopoly in technology and ensure equitable access to technology to build an inclusive society and reduce social inequalities. Speaking at the Outreach session of the G7 summit, the Prime Minister affirmed India’s commitment to collaborating with all nations to make Artificial Intelligence transparent, fair, secure, accessible, and responsible.
3. PM Modi described his time at the G7 Summit in Italy as “very productive” before departing for New Delhi early Saturday. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Had a very productive day at the G7 Summit in Apulia. Interacted with world leaders and discussed various subjects. Together, we aim to create impactful solutions that benefit the global community and create a better world for future generations.”
4. During a bilateral meeting, PM Modi and Giorgia Meloni discussed defence and security cooperation between their countries. “They welcomed the forthcoming visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official release.
5. The Prime Minister also met US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit and assured that India and the US will keep “working together to further global good.” In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “It’s always a pleasure to meet @POTUS @JoeBiden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good.”
6. PM Modi also held a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 Summit. This was their first face-to-face meeting since Trudeau accused Indian government agents of being involved in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in Canada last year, leading to the arrest of four Indian nationals in connection with the case. These allegations caused severe strains in the relationship between India and Canada, with India calling Trudeau’s claims “absurd” and “motivated.”
