Ottawa: Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau has called out China for its “persistent” interference during the 2019 and 2021 elections. Addressing a commission on Wednesday, the Canadian PM satetd that Beijing has tried to meddle in the elections, but the result of these elections were not impacted.
Trudeau’s testimony to the commission comes after Canada ruled out India for foreign interference. Senior poll officials told the probe panels that “no interference was found” during the 2019 local polls and the 2021 national polls.

During his testimony, the Canadian Prime Minister stated that despite Chinese interference, the two elections were conducted in a “free and fair” manner.

An intelligence report submitted before the commission described China’s interference as “sophisticated, pervasive and persistent”. Despite this, Trudeau assured that the results of the elections were decided by Canadians.

“Despite attempts by foreign states to interfere, those elections held in their integrity. They were decided by Canadians,” stated the Prime Minister.
