According to the preliminary probe, the women workers first had symptoms of breathing and coughing, later they fainted after which they were all taken to nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
29 women workers of a fish plant in Thoothukudi district fainted due to an ammonia gas leak and were immediately rushed to an hospital nearby for treatment. It is being reported that a fire rescue officer who arrived at the spot for rescue operation also purposes also inhaled the ammonia gas and fainted and was taken to the hospital
Preliminary investigation has revealed that last night there was a electrical short condition that had led to the leakage of one of the ammonia storage containers. The affected workers initially had symptoms including difficulty in breathing and coughing and later they had fainted.
A team of officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution control board and a team of Forensic officials are at the spot conducting an inquiry.
