While on its way to Newark, New Jersey, a United Airlines spokesperson said that two passengers who appeared to be intoxicated started being disruptive.
Two unruly passengers forced a United Airlines flight bound for New Jersey to land early in Maine, an airline official said.
According to flight tracking website FlightAware, United Airlines Flight 883 took off from London Heathrow at 7.52am on Friday.
While on its way to Newark, New Jersey, a spokesperson for the airline said that two passengers who appeared to be intoxicated started being disruptive.
The Boeing 767, carrying 150 passengers, went off course and landed at Bangor International Airport in Maine at 9.59am (2.59pm GMT).
The spokesperson said the duo were then removed, and that they will be banned from future flights.
Bangor Police Department officers confirmed that two passengers were removed, and that the FBI and Customs and Border Protection are handling the investigation.
