The Saudi Pro League’s attendances have hit a new low – as just 560 fans watched Al-Okhdood and Damac FC battle it out at the bottom of the top flight in the gulf state
The Saudi Pro League has suffered its latest embarrassment with another low attendances for a top tier match.
Footballers flocked to the Middle Eastern riches over the summer as they followed in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo – who made the switch last winter. However, the influx of talent hasn’t quite produced the ticket sales many expected it would.
There was only 560 fans at the Prince Hathloul Sports City to see Al-Okhdood sink to a 2-1 loss to Damac FC. Romanian international Nicolae Stanciu was the pick of the performers, and he netted Damac’s opener on Saturday afternoon.
Domagoj Antolic doubled their lead before Saeed Al-Rabiei pulled one back for the home side, in front of the tiny attendance.
Al Okhdood are relative new boys to the Saudi top flight and they don’t boast many foreign superstars after only being promoted to the Pro League in 2021. Last month, just 294 rocked up to the King Salman Sport City Stadium to see them lose to Al-Fayha.
